What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Diners rave about the delicious homestyle Spanish food, particularly mentioning the generous portions and outstanding value of the Menu del Día. The friendly and accommodating staff, who even offer English explanations and show pictures of dishes, add to the welcoming atmosphere. However, a few guests noted occasional issues with food temperature or the accuracy of opening hours, and some felt the service could be friendlier.
"The restaurant was simple, clean, and homey. The food was good and the servings were generous. We ordered ensalada de zorongollo, cochifrito, solomillo ibérico and a tapa of orejas."

"We found this place inside the city for a spot of tapas dinner. They had decent options for vegetarians and the staff were friendly enough to explain in English. They even went ahead to show pictures of the dishes for us to understand. Toilet facilities were clean and we appreciated their delightful service. Lovely wine recommendations as well.
Prices were fair and recommend this place for tapas or food."

"The food was delicious. The mantilla de cerdo was outstanding. The bacalao dorado was very tasty too, but it was a shame because it came quite cold. Then I was almost overcharged for an item that I did not order. The service could be friendlier too. Must reserve ahead because they turned a lot of people away, even though the restaurant did not seem full."

Restaurants in Extremadura
The drab interiors of this Mérida standby belie a well-executed menu of must-try dishes including migas (fried bread crumbs with bacon), jamón-wrapped melon, gazpacho, and whatever puchero del día (stew of the day) happens to be burbling out back.
Places to Eat
El Puchero de la Nieta ('The Granddaughter's Pot'), just down the road from the Amphitheatre, serves up comforting regional dishes. While you can splash out on more expensive dishes there are some delicious, wonderfully budget friendly options - for example on the section of the menu humorously titled Con un Par de Huevos ('With a Pair of Eggs'). Migas (Shepherds breadcrumbs) or Huevos rotos con morcilla de Guadalupe (broken eggs with black pudding) are irresistible.
