Many reviewers highlight the friendly and helpful service, and the generous portion sizes. "A taste of traditional Spain at this place near the Royal Palace. Reserve a table in the salon for a 2PM lunch. This place gets very, very busy, so be prepared for a bit of hectic action. The Regalitos de Torito are fantastic. Everything on the menu very good. Also, for the price, you get a good value."

"We came for the Regalitos de Rabo de Toro and Vermouth (had other things as well).
Was very nice, but as others pointed out is the really good service. We had a very helpful waiter ()"

"Finally made it there after much fanfare about it. An institution in Madrid but a disappointment. Their calamari was blend and tough. Expensive for the portions provided. However, service was friendly and prompt. It will not be missed and most likely won't be visited again. Many other options available in the area to consider"

12 of our Favorite Places for Vermouth and Tapas in Madrid
Our final stop on this route is a little more upscale than the others, but that’s not too unexpected considering its location next to Madrid’s Royal Palace. One of the hard-to-find places in Madrid that still serves a free tapa (of their choosing) when you order a drink, you don’t have to pay for any food at El Anciano Rey de los Vinos to have something to snack on. Despite the fact that they offer a free tapa with your beverage, and even though it will set you back €11.50, there is one specialty here that we highly recommend ordering: the Regalitos de Torito.

In old Madrid, red doors used to indicate the premises served only wine, and drinkers would bring their own food. Today, the wine and vermouth offering is still impressive, however is now served with great tapas at fantastically low prices and there's even a marbled restaurant in the back room.
