A slow crawl up the Calle Perez Galdós, trendiest of Triana’s retail streets, took me past cool concept stores, fifth-wave coffee bars, vinyl record shops, hip menswear boutiques, and an interior-design emporium (Trastornados) so gorgeous you could practically live in it. Half-way up the street stood the colonial mansion slated for Cordial’s next urban property, due to open later this year.

How about a meal at Rincón de Triana, an atmospheric beauty – all exposed stone walls and elaborate tiling – set back from Las Palmas’s rambling run of beaches. Carnivores will be in their element, given the meaty classics, including sizzling beef tenderloin or beef carpaccio – made with flavourful slivers of Black Angus. And for pescatarians, lime-doused grilled octopus is a hit.

The Museum of the City and the Sea is located inside Mata Castle, an historic spot that formed part of the city’s defences and is near the district of Triana, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The museum teaches visitors about more than five centuries of history with special emphasis on the city’s close and continuous relationship with the sea. A highly recommended tour that allows us to learn a little more about the past of the island’s capital, in an emblematic building that has been declared an Artistic and Historical Monument – a true jewel that the city can be proud of.

Next to Vegueta we find Triana, which has many areas to go out to dinner and is home to the main bus station in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. It is considered the most “cultured” area of Las Palmas , since here you will find important museums and buildings on the island such as the Gabinete Literario, the Teatro Guiniguada or the Benito Pérez Galdós House Museum. Due to its character and also because it is in the heart of the historic area, the rental price is more expensive than in the rest of the city.

Next to Vegueta, we find Triana, which has many bars, restaurants, and pubs for dining out and hosts the main bus station of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. It is considered the most "cultured" area of Las Palmas, as you will find important museums and buildings of the island, such as the Gabinete Literario, the Guiniguada Theater, or the Benito Pérez Galdós House Museum. Due to its character and also being right in the historic center, the rental prices are higher than in the rest of the city.

Colonial neighbourhoods: To discover the colonial-era architecture, we recommend a visit to the historic centre Vegueta and Triana, in the island's capital, Las Palmas. Vegueta was founded in 1478 and has several tourist attractions such as the Cathedral, the Plaza de Santa Ana, the Casa-Museo Colón (learn about the trips of Christopher Columbus) and many more houses from the colonial period. You can take a leisurely stroll through the streets of Las Palmas and discover it all.

It's easily the grandest city in the eight Canary Islands, with the dramatic legacy of its past bursting across its historic quarters of Vegueta and Triana in the form of an ever-engaging architectural smorgasbord. The city spills out along the ocean, its massive port unmissable, but so are its beaches and historic quarters. This is a city of the outdoors, where much time is spent in pavement cafés in its wide boulevards or cosy cobbled squares.

The city is divided into different areas, including the historic quarter of Vegueta, the commercial area of Triana, and the Ciudad Jardín. Visitors can explore the city's narrow cobbled streets, visit the Santa Ana Cathedral, and stroll through the Vegueta Market. The city also has several museums, including the Canarian Museum, the Christopher Columbus House Museum, and the Sacred Art Museum.

For a slightly more upmarket meal, Rincón de Triana is an elegant choice for a Sunday lunch or an evening out after a day at the beach. We tried the tuna timbale with tomatoes, black olives and red onions, bound together with a mayo-based sauce. Next, we ordered the “broken eggs” with sweet shrimp, lashings of garlic butter and elvers (baby eels that look like noodles).

Triana in Gran Canaria is an uncovered outdoor pedestrian shopping and dining area, and is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the capital city of the island, Las Palmas. It is located right by the main bus station (San Telmo). It was built on the banks of Guiniguada ravine, which divided the first European settlement on the island, Vegueta, from the newer one, Triana.

Others will want to explore the Modernist buildings in the Triana district and the beautiful colonial architecture in the old quarter of Vegueta. The latter is also home to the excellent Centro Atlántico de Arte Moderno contemporary art gallery, showcasing modern Canarian and African art, and Catedral Santa Ana (St. Anne’s Cathedral), which took 400 years to complete.

The historic quarter named Triana, which belongs to the Center District, is one of the most charming places of the capital city. Here, you will enjoy strolls through cobbled lanes and picturesque spots with an historical touch. The famous street Calle Mayor de Triana stands out for its architectonical beauty and its intense shopping activity.

Well, from the port area to the highly sought after area of Triana, and then the Vagueta Old Town which includes the historic Plaza de Santa Ana and the Cathedral, as well as the commercial area of Calle Mesa y López which features a variety of shops such as El Corte Inglés and numerous restaurants offering local and international cuisine.

Located in the historic neighbourhood of Triana, Deliciosa Marta is one of the top restaurants in Las Palmas and an excellent choice for unique dining experience. The carefully curated menu combines traditional and contemporary dishes to perfection, while the warm décor sets the mood. Best to book in advance as it fills up quickly.

Charlie did some research but there isn’t much information about the street art in Las Palmas. Where cities like Bristol and London offer ready-made maps and even guided street art tours, Las Palmas has to be discovered on your own. It was by coincidence that Charlie discovered some more street art and graffiti near Triana.

Triana is also the old town part of the city but it’s a little more developed. Digital nomads can find great cafes, bars, and restaurants here along with cultural attractions. Triana is home to important landmarks such as Benito Pérez Galdós House Museum and the Guiniguada Theatre.

The Triana district, located next to Vegueta, is mainly known for the Calle Mayor de Triana shopping street. This pedestrian area is a hub between Vegueta and the San Telmo bus station. While the shopping street has a few beautiful buildings, the alleys behind it are better.

After some time we reach Triana, a district where we find a large promenade (Mayor de Triana). There is a ton of shops on both sides. At the request of my brother-in-law we visit the jelly shop where he chooses a little bit of different kinds of sweets.

Once you have been picked up near your hotel, we will go by bus to the Triana and Vegueta area where you will have approximately 3 hours of free time to do your shopping, visit the Cathedral of Santa Ana, the Columbus Museum or the municipal market.

If you feel like home comforts, head to Cafe Suecia for filter coffee and cake, or Maria & Stewart’s Kitchen & Bar in Triana for Cesar salad and Scotch eggs. If you feel the need for a full English breakfast, you have to get the bus to the resorts.

The Qué Leche restaurant is located in the capital of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, in the neighborhood Triana. Specifically in the 22 Torres Street. Whenever you want a table you are going to have to book at least one or two weeks in advance.

Carry on by foot towards Triana, a high street full of life and colourful buildings, for even more examples of Canarian modernism. Go off the main street and follow the stone pavements to find little boutiques and cosy restaurants.

In the pedestrian street of Triana, you can see the Modernist buildings and more than a kilometre of shops at your disposal, and feel the local atmosphere in the small establishments of this great commercial artery.

Triana is known as the shopping district of Las Palmas (in San Telmo) with a huge number of shops along the main street. We personally prefer the malls, but Triana is lovely to explore after visiting the Old Town.

In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, you can enjoy a journey through its history in the Vegueta and Triana neighborhoods, with museums such as the Museo Canario, the Casa de Colón or the Atlantic Center of Modern Art.

The pedestrianized surface is as easy on your feet as are the window-shopping opportunities on your purse/wallet. Also, you never know what you'll find when you're there.

As Vegueta grew, it ran out of room and spread north across the Guiniguada Valley to form Triana. The two historical barrios were once connected by bridges over a stream.

Other areas like Ciudad Jardín, Vegueta and Triana are visually nicer, cheaper and I would recommend them for you to consider if the beach is not your priority.

The district of Triana stands out for its commercial character, as does the Fishermen's Quarter, two charming places worth visiting.

That said, you might need to hop on a bus or taxi to get to the Old Town (Vegueta and Triana) and vice versa.
