What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
A Pulpeira de Melide is celebrated for its exceptional Galician octopus, often hailed as the best in the region. Diners also rave about unique dishes like Gilda de viera and their delectable desserts. While the food is a major draw, some patrons note that service can be inattentive, especially when busy, and prices are considered a bit high for the local area.
"Excellent pulpeira, obviously specialises in Galician style octopus, but other food is excellent too, but it's really busy, and as a result service isn't very attentive."

"it was so delicious. definitely get the octopus and the mussels. the sauce the mussels came in was phenomenal.. we ended up ordering almost everything on the menu even though the waiter tried to stop us after 4 dishes (there was 3 of us), but we cleared everything. i haven’t had a good solid tortilla in a while and that was amazing. the desserts we got also were fantastic. the milhojas was INCREDIBLE. do not miss it. we ordered the iberian ham too which i would skip next time. only thing i would say is - it was a little pricey for what im used to in Coruña, (even though it wasn’t as bad as im used to in the US for example), and the server didn’t really speak much english. one of my friends is spanish so thank god she was there to translate but english speakers keep that in mind! i also rated the atmosphere a little lower than i would- because sitting outside wasn’t much of a vibe compared to inside… would come back for sure though :)"

"Thought the food was decent, but sunday evenings it’s a paired down menu due to low staff but I found the service to be lackluster. They also opened 30 minutes after they were supposed to (8:00)"

10 Best Restaurants In Galicia, Spain
A Pulpeira de Melide demonstrates how a traditional octopus-serving venue can transform into a 21st century establishment, guided by the fourth generation of a family devoted to preparing Galician octopus. Founded by their great-grandparents, the restaurant’s owners have been developing it over the years to offer an exquisite selection of Galician cuisine along with high-quality products and affordable prices. A mandatory order is, of course, the octopus ( polbo á feira), cooked in deep copper pots and served in wooden dishes seasoned with olive oil, coarse sea salt and paprika, and accompanied by seasoned, boiled potatoes.

Hay que ir a la Pulpeira de Melide (Praza de España, 16. Tel. 981 152 197. No olvides pedir también las patatas, que van aparte y valen mucho la pena”.
Best Bites in La Coruña
I am typically not a fan of Galician style pulpo, which is boiled and doused with olive oil, paprika and salt. The exterior purple ring on the octopus tentacle tends to be a bit, well, jello-y. At Melide they somehow manage to stay true to the traditional Galician recipe while giving their pulpo a slightly crispy texture.

Pulpeira de Melide Four generations on and arguably still the best place in the city to eat octopus, but there’s also an excellent daily-changing carte to enjoy inside in the beamed and stone-wall interior or on the terrace.
