This stylishly refined restaurant has bagged a Solete recognition from the acclaimed Guía Repsol for its lightly innovative take on regional cooking, paired with exclusively Spanish wines. There are just a handful of coveted terrace tables, but the crisp indoor dining room keeps buzzy too, with hams behind the bar and a mix of high stools and seating. The menu introduces you to original renditions of Andalusian favourites, like meaty flamenquín and cod-filled tortilla, as well as cold-cut platters that include mountain-cured Trevélez ham.

La Botillería continues to get rave local reviews thanks to its imaginatively presented food, thoughtful wine list and smart-casual modern design. Dine on starters of Cantabrian anchovies and Trevélez ham, followed by original mains such as milhoja de presa ibérica (millefeuille with pork and avocado).

I’m pretty sure La Botillería used to be more a bar than a restaurant, tucked away in the border between the centre and the Realejo, but it seems to have pivoted more to sit down meals, and a very meat-heavy menu, since I went to Granada last, possibly because it has competition in the form of the extremely hip Rosario Varela next door. I booked lunch at La Botillería on the very last day of my 2024 trip, hoping to sit outside and drink wine and eat racion after racion until I was full and happy. At that point I was going to go back to the hotel and snooze on the roof terrace until it was time for the taxi to the airport.

Welcome to La Botillería in Granada, where wine flows like a lazy river and lingers on your lips like a mischievous kiss from Bacchus himself. Nestled on a cobblestone street, this cozy tavern exudes an old-world charm that's somehow managed to evade the grasp of time, much like your desire to leave this place after one drink. Prepare to be enticed by a curated selection of wines that will make even the most indifferent taste buds stand up and say, "You know what? Life's too short for tasteless, watered-down plonk!

La Botilleria is another popular establishment that looks closer to a proper sit-down restaurant than a bar, but they do have a section towards the back reserved for diners who just want to have tapas. We were still a bit hungry after watching an excellent flamenco show at Zambra María la Canastera, so we stopped here for drinks and a few dishes before calling it a night. For our free tapas, they gave us these hamburguesas or mini-hamburgers with caramelized onions and a side of fries.

Local wines such as the fruity Vertijana 3 feature heavily at La Botilleria (Calle Varela, 10). It’s owned by the same family as La Tana, and the bow-tied wait staff take your wine order just as seriously. Their deep-fried artichokes coated in crunchy maize, drizzled with thick sugarcane honey is a twist on a local recipe; the tortilla sacromonte (sweetbread and ham omelette) is another typical Granadino dish on the menu, while the bar’s mini pork burgers are also popular.

My guide for the best tapas in town is at Taberna St Germain, Bodega Castaneda, Bar Los Diamentes and La Botilleria - all easily reached via walking - go for a Tapas crawl, you’ll feel the vague sense that you might actually be doing as the locals do.

One of the most-loved tapas bars by locals, this is a great place to enjoy a glass of wine and a tapa (or two!). They also have great homemade desserts, which is a rarity in Granada!

We were over the moon finding such a great place that is very central and catered for a celiac. Quality was just amazing. It is highly recommend for celiac costumers.
