What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Diners rave about El Huerto de Juan Ranas for its absolutely breathtaking views of the Alhambra, making it a must-visit for many. The food is described as tasty with fresh ingredients, and the cocktails are a hit. However, some patrons feel the prices are high for the value and have experienced slow or inattentive service, which detracts from the otherwise stunning ambiance.
"I was honestly a bit worried about coming here after reading some review, however I can honestly say that this restaurant is a MUST for one of your dinners in Granada.
If possible, I recommend paying extra for the front row tables as the view is extraordinary.
I would also recommend arriving around 30 mins before sunset so that you can appreciate both the sunset and the night view of the Alhambra.
Our server, Gabi, was very friendly and attentive! I did not notice a long wait for food like the other reviews and it was a very full Friday night.
The food was very tasty, would recommend the arroz negro paella!"

"Beautiful setting, but service and value left much to be desired
The restaurant truly enjoys a stunning location with one of the best views in the city – it’s an ideal setting for a memorable meal. The food itself was good, with fresh ingredients and well-prepared mains that showed care in the kitchen.
However, the overall experience was let down by the poor service. We were left waiting far too long with little attention from the staff, who seemed uninterested and disengaged throughout the evening. For a place of this caliber, attentive and welcoming service should be a given – unfortunately, that was not our experience.
Pricing was another mixed point. While we understand you’re paying for the location, 24€ for a simple tomato salad (with olive oil and avocado). The rest of the menu was more in line with expectations for such a venue, but that one item stood out in a negative way.
In short, it’s a place with great potential, but the lackluster service and questionable value make it hard to recommend without hesitation."

"Again, I didn’t research any spots — I just followed our guide’s recommendation. Alas, it’s not a place I would have picked voluntarily.
Anyway, at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, we showed up without a reservation and explained that we’d like to have a few drinks and something small to eat for about half an hour while enjoying the view of the Alhambra. By the way, we are well-dressed, well-behaved tourists who speak English fluently.
We immediately asked for a table with the best view and were told those were reserved. We were offered a second-row table that wasn’t preset, but that’s not what we wanted, so we insisted on one of the “premier” tables. We were still refused—until we noticed that one of those tables wasn’t preset either, at which point we finally got it.
We’re used to slower service than in the US, so we ordered drinks right away and got them quickly. The gazpacho was delicious, as was the tomato salad with tuna. We did expect a bit more in terms of local dishes, but at that moment the selection was different. As we were informed, the restaurant changes its menu quite often, so don’t expect to see the exact same dishes you find in Google reviews.
The point of my review is this: I don’t understand why servers/managers give attitude to paying customers. Isn’t that their source of income? Especially when customers from the US tend to tip differently. Rude service will only drive away potential customers, even if the restaurant has the best view of the Alhambra."

Spanish classics such as patatas bravas (deep fried potato cubes served with a spicy sauce) and rabo de toro (stewed oxtail) are offered alongside pasta, burgers and couscous. There’s also a great selection of wines from Granada’s mountainous Alpujarras region.
