Café Futbol is a beloved Granada institution, lauded for its traditional atmosphere and exceptional churros and chocolate. The ambiance, especially the outdoor terrace, is a significant draw for both locals and tourists seeking a taste of history.

It felt as a time travel, and brought a great feeling of a real Spanish experience. Lots of locals, good food and good price.

If you’re passing by, I recommend the stop."

City guide: Granada

Breakfast in Granada means churros, and churros means Cafe Futbol (although Gran Cafe Bib-Rambla, in the more central and splendidly-named Plaza Bib-Rambla, is also worth consideration). Sitting in the square outside with half a dozen churros, a zumo de naranja and a café con leche sets you up perfectly for the day, and Café Futbol does them better than anywhere else I’ve found. The batter is perfectly sweet yet salty, and although lots of people like to dunk them in thick, gloopy chocolate I prefer to empty the contents of a sugar sachet onto my unused saucer and gently dab them in that, giving just a little crunch and sweetness.

5 Spots for Churros in Granada You Won't Want to Miss

If you're looking for the best chocolate in town, there's no question: come to Café Fútbol. Centrally located and economically priced, this is one of the best places for churros in Granada at any time of year. When the weather is warm, you can enjoy a breakfast of churros in the outdoor seating of the normally-shady Plaza Mariana Pineda, and on chilly or rainy days there's plenty of space on the sprawling top floor for you to sit and enjoy your breakfast or merienda (afternoon snack).

This cafeteria is one of those establishments that over time, has managed to retain that traditional atmosphere of yesteryear. Its doors have been open since 1903, originally by Antonio Suarez (the grandfather of the current Antonio Suarez) and it is now run by four generations of the Suarez family. The family are faithful to the traditions of preparing their dishes, here you can taste the best churros in Granada and don´t forget the exquisite ´leche rizada´ - the best in Granada.

Foodie Friday|Granada, Spain

Café Fútbol (open from six in the morning until midnight daily) is a locals’ favorite for churros and hot chocolate. I tried them several places and I think this is the best. (This was the first time I ate churros since the age of 15 when I gorged myself on at least six in one sitting at a patinada (skating party) in Caracas – I couldn’t bear the sight or smell for literally decades!.

Delicious Treats of Granada

For starters, there's Café Fútbol, right at the end of Plaza de Mariana Pineda, which is a simple five to ten minute trek from the residence hall. It is there that one can come across some of the best churros con chocolate in Spain. The churros themselves are crisp and delicious, while the chocolate is much thicker than what I was used to in America.
