What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Sidrería Tierra Astur Poniente offers a unique Asturian dining experience with generous portions and a lively atmosphere. While many praise the traditional dishes, authentic cider, and friendly service, some reviews point to inconsistencies in food quality and an emphasis on quantity over refinement. Be prepared for potential waits, especially during peak hours, but many find the overall experience worthwhile for its authenticity and charm.
"A traditional cider house with a really charming and authentic vibe. The interior is unique, with decorative cider bottles hanging from the ceiling and even seating areas built into giant barrels — perfect for groups. The place was packed when we arrived, and since we didn’t have a reservation, we were told the wait would be around 30 minutes.
While waiting, you’re invited to the bar where you can enjoy drinks (including their amazing cider) and tapas, which really made time fly. Once your table is ready, they call your name. The menu is extensive, with lots of tempting pictures, and the food and service were both excellent."

"I had the pleasure of visiting Sidrería Tierra Astur and it was an unforgettable experience. The atmosphere of the place is warm, lively, and uniquely Asturian, capturing the spirit of the region perfectly.
The Asturian cider served here is a highlight in itself – poured the traditional way, it adds to the authenticity and charm. It’s crisp, slightly tart, and incredibly refreshing. I also tried a variety of Asturian dishes, and every bite was full of flavor – rustic, hearty, and true to the region’s culinary roots.
From the wooden décor to the bustling, friendly environment, everything about this sidrería gives you the real taste of Asturias – both in food and culture. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to experience Asturian gastronomy at its best."

"What a unique experience!!!
The local cider is delicious but the show that goes with it is very entertaining and fun. Try the local white been soup, a local favourite. The atmosphere was wooden barrels, wine bottle lights. Unique!"

The Best Restaurants In Gijón, Spain
Cider is an extremely popular, locally produced beverage in Asturias – so much so that it has given rise to a whole host of sidrerías (known locally as chigres), which are not too dissimilar from tapas bars elsewhere in Spain. At Tierra Astur Poniente, ceiling and light fixtures have been made with reused cider cases and bottles. There’s a very large menu here, containing everything from local dishes such as cachopo, to classic tapas.
Where to eat in Gijón: 10 recommended restaurants
We cannot finish this list of recommended restaurants in Gijón without mentioning Tierra Astur, an institution in the city and in Asturias, which is undoubtedly chosen by many locals and travellers for lunch or dinner. In our case we were very hesitant to go, as on the one hand it had been highly recommended to us, but on the other hand, they advised us against it, telling us that it is a place where quantity and low prices are more important than quality. After our experience we have to say that we think it is more the latter, and although it is a good option if you want to try a traditional dish in a curious place, we think that there are much better restaurants in Gijón that offer better quality for the same price. Address: Calle Mariano Pola 10, 12 y 14. Opening times: every day from 13:30h to 01:30h

Cachopo, a dish of breaded veal or beef with cheese and ham folded inside, is one of the most famous Asturian dishes.
