What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Choco Restaurante is celebrated for its innovative, Michelin-starred cuisine and exceptional service, offering a gastronomic tour through historical Cordoba. While many praise the unique dishes and attentive staff, a rare but significant concern involves reports of food poisoning and the restaurant's response. Despite this, the overall dining experience is highly regarded for its creativity and memorable presentations, though it comes at a considerable price point.
"Delightful experience with many surprising dishes. Exceeded my expectations and better than many other one star establishments in Andalucia.
High level on taste, creativity, presentation and service. Most memorable dishes for me was the mushroom appetizer, wild grilled and smoked rabbit, carabinero, cuttlefish(!). All of them unique and delicious.
Recommend."

"I regret to say that my experience at El Choco was disastrous. Shortly after eating there, my partner and I both started feeling violently ill, with symptoms of throwing up and diarrhea. The onset was rapid—by the time we finished our meal at around 5:30 pm, we were already suffering from food poisoning. In fact, I had to rush to the bathroom to throw up before leaving the restaurant, which was a first for me and, hopefully, the last.
We contacted the restaurant to inform them of the issue, and it took them five days to respond. They claimed they were having problems with their email (which is a Gmail account), and dismissed our experience, stating that no other customers had reported issues. However, I find this hard to believe, especially given that the only food we had prior to our visit was a pizza 20 hours earlier and breakfast (quite simple and with different items for the two of us). Both my partner and I ate the same things, and we were affected in exactly the same way, making it hard to ignore the possibility of foodborne illness from this specific meal.
After consulting with doctors, it was confirmed that the symptoms we experienced were consistent with a bacterial foodborne illness. The doctors specifically inquired about raw or undercooked seafood or fish, which we did consume at El Choco.
Despite the food poisoning incident, I must acknowledge that the service was excellent, and the staff was friendly and attentive. However, the atmosphere was minimalist and simple, which I appreciate) but somewhat dull, and while the food was interesting, it was heavy and, unfortunately, led to our sickness.
I truly wish I could recommend this restaurant, but based on our experience, I cannot. Food safety should be a priority, and it’s concerning that the restaurant seemed indifferent to the issue. I hope they take the necessary steps to ensure that this doesn’t happen to others."

"The fine dining was an experience from start to finish. Every dish brought something to be surprised by, either presentation, ingredients, taste or all three. See for yourself in the sneak peak photos :)
