Reviews Summary
Bar La Tabernita is a highly recommended, bustling tapas bar known for its delicious and unique Spanish dishes, friendly service, and excellent value. While the atmosphere is lively and often crowded, some find the high tables and chairs uncomfortable. Despite this, the overwhelming sentiment is one of delight in the authentic flavors and welcoming staff.
"Our walking tour guide recommended this place and they were so spot on. Amazing food, such friendly and good natured staff, and an amazing atmosphere. I am vegetarian and highly recommend the aubergine and cheese dish as well as the spinach dish. My parents who eat fish raved about the sardines on toast, and hake and prawns in squid ink. We went for dinner and although the restaurant opens at 8:30 I would highly recommend arriving anywhere between 8pm-8:20pm for a spot outside. Really great prices and would recommend to everyone."

"This is the best place to have dinner in Cadiz. They only open 3 days a week but I was lucky enough to eat their delicious tapas! I went there at the opening hour and find the last table in the bar. Be early if you don't want to wait. I strongly recommend spinach with chickpeas and aubergine with cheese. Yummy! 😋😋"

Double check in advance because it only opens on certain days of the week (Thursday to Sunday evenings currently, and Saturday and Sunday lunchtimes). The down-to-earth menu is limited but it doesn’t matter what you order because it’s all going be great. The quality-to-price ratio is off the chart, and the (fantastic) service is borderline unheard-of in Cádiz.
The Best Bars In Cádiz, Spain
When done right, all the bells and whistles in the world couldn’t surpass the humble neighbourhood tapas bar. La Tabernita seems a fairly unassuming spot at first glance – the tiny interior means that people spill out into the street, perched at sherry cask tables. Arrive before 9pm if you want a seat at what must be one of the best-value spots in the city.

Bar La Tabernita is a small family traditional tapas and wine bar in the charming La Viña neighbourhood, the former fishing quarter. It’s only open a few days per week so make sure to check the current opening hours before your visit. We had the chickpea and meat special, pork loin sandwich, cuttlefish meatball with squid ink, and our favourite, a delicious ratatouille.
Solo in Cadiz: 2 day guide for a weekend getaway on the Spanish coast
My walking tour passed by Bar La Tabernita located at Calle Virgen de la Palma and our guide recommended us to eat the tapas here. This bar is generally only open on Friday and the weekends so I guessed I was lucky with my timing and even managed to get an outdoor seat with a barrel table during lunch. It’s a quaint little spot.
The best Places to eat in Cádiz
Bar la Tabernita is one of the best places to eat in Cadiz, in my opinion. Located in the beautiful street Calle Virgen de la Palma, they exclusively sell tapas, all of which have a good quality for a fair price. I personally love the zucchini strips in white wine and garlic sauce, and the eggplant stuffed with cheese.

Located on a buzzing street in La Vina — the best barrio (neighbourhood) in town for tapas — this no-frills bar is seriously good value. Every tapas dish that flies out of their kitchen costs £2.10. Order the cuttlefish meatballs in black ink and cheese-stuffed aubergine.
