Best for: beer-loversLocated near the Udaletxeko Zubia Bridge, this uniquely multifunctional spot is part brewery, part bakery and part restaurant. Staff in breton tops buzz around ferrying drinks and parcelling up bread. It does a good-value midweek menú del día, which you can enjoy while watching bakers and brewers going about their business, although it’s the beer that’s the main attraction.

Es un ejemplo de una potente inversión pero bien aplicada, y nos recuerda mucho a la Textil de Barcelona. Aitor Elizegi, ex-presidente del Athletic y empresario hostelero quiso jugar con una propuesta gastronómica nueva y lo logró con un lugar que cuesta definir: restaurante, obrador de pan, cafetería, taller…En suma un espacio multidisciplinar en el que puedes comer muy bien alguna de las pizzas o hamburguesas y por supuesto beber cerveza artesana.

Finally, don’t miss Basquery – a cosy, vault-like restaurant and brewpub just across the river from the Casco Viejo, with exposed stone walls, an open kitchen and vintage curios dotted here and there. We headed there for breakfast, but it also serves lunches, evening meals, wines and craft beers. And there’s a bakery where you can treat yourself to fresh loaves, pastries and cakes baked on site.

This Basque brewery and bakery might just sound like a fun alliteration, but it’s actually one of the trendiest spots in Bilbao. Upon entering the front doors, it feels as if you’ve just entered the kitchen of a long-lost Basque friend who’s invited you in for craft beer and a quality burger. There’s only one burger on the menu here, but it’s just so good that it deserves a spot on this list.

The Basquery’s craft beer is made in Bilbao from their own formulas using the best water to be found in Europe, a variety of freshly milled malts, fresh hops from different sources and a whole lot of passion. The result is a different beer served straight from the maturation tanks, a beer that will surprise you. de maduración, una cerveza que sorprende, que tiene alma.

Heading back little by little towards the Ría estuary, the Basquery (Ibáñez de Bilbao, 8) is waiting to surprise us. More than a bar, it is a workshop for gastronomic artisans. The coffee is toasted, the bread is baked and the beer is fermented in the same place.

Great beers and delicious food, The Basquery has become a go-to stop for any Bilbaino on a craft beer pub crawl. The spot has an in-house brewery and keeps 10 beers on tap.
