Reviews Summary

Cinc Sentits offers a highly creative and innovative take on Catalan cuisine, with many diners praising the exceptional flavors and artistic presentation. The wine pairings are frequently highlighted as a strong point, complementing the dishes beautifully. However, some guests have expressed concerns regarding the value for money, with portions sometimes perceived as small, and occasional critiques about service lacking genuine warmth or the ambiance feeling cold.

"A year has passed since that dinner, and yet the memory remains vivid, etched in my mind.
That alone speaks volumes about how impactful the experience was!

Each dish was a true masterpiece. The balance and precision of flavors, the perfectly controlled intensity… words fall short to describe the perfection and harmony of this meal 👌

Here, there’s no obscure ingredients, just carefully selected products, prepared with remarkable precision and sensitivity, elevating them to something truly extraordinary

The wine pairings beautifully enhanced this culinary journey🍷
A special mention to the sommelier, who introduced us to some stunning Spanish and South American wines, delightfully challenging our French ego!

Beyond what was on the plate, what made this dinner unforgettable was the seamless, warm, and thoughtful service, orchestrated with great finesse by the front-of-house team
A heartfelt thank you again to the sommelier, who spoke impeccable French and was able to convey the chef’s vision with clarity and grace

To this day, this meal at Cinc Sentits remains, without a doubt, the most extraordinary gastronomic experience of my life. ⭐️⭐️"

"I have mixed feelings about our night at Cinc Sentits. There were some really special moments, and some things that for the price point weren’t so great.

I will say that when we made the initial reservation the price online for the full tasting menu was around €169 pp. On the date of our visit the full tasting was €220, quite a jump without notice. Nowhere on the website does it say the price changes seasonally with the menu.

They also offer a “light menu” option for €20 less. We asked the difference and it was three courses less than the full tasting and the full tasting would last around 3 hours.

Pros: the food was absolutely spectacular. I’ve truly never tried dishes that were so innovative and full of flavor the way they craft their plates here. The wine pairing also was a nice accompaniment to the food, and being able to try wines from Catalonia without having to pour over and choose ourselves from the extensive wine menu was great. The service was also very attentive for certain aspects of the meal. Our water was always full, and the presentation of the dishes was really informative and thorough.

Cons: The time. Even though we ordered the light menu, and got 3 less dishes than those with the full tasting we were still at our table for 3 hours, coursed out with every other table. The wine pairing, while nice to have, was at the end of the day only 2 and a half glasses of wine for over €100. I wish we had gotten one more type of wine. The appetizers didn’t include a pairing and the 3 desserts only came with one. Also the ambiance of the restaurant was very odd. There was no background music playing at all, so if you ever weren’t talking it was silent. It felt like you weren’t allowed to chat. Also the aesthetic of the restaurant felt cold. Maybe if there was music playing it might have warmed it up. But when you’re sitting for 15 minutes or more in between courses with silence because no one around you is speaking, it’s a strange feeling and makes the price you’re paying even more apparent.

At the end of the day, the food is incredible but I’m not sure that outweighs the negatives of the experience or the hefty price tag."

"Cinc Sentits is easily one of the best Michelin-starred restaurants I’ve experienced. The space is simple, modern, and welcoming. Upon arrival, you’re treated to a snack and cocktail prepared right in front of you. I love the attention to detail—they provide a card with each course, explaining where the ingredients are sourced and what’s in the dish.

The sommelier was exceptional. I did the wine pairing, and each selection was flawlessly matched to the dishes—it was truly impressive! One wine even completely neutralized the fish aftertaste. The saffron curd dessert left a lasting impression—hands down the best dessert I’ve ever had.

I highly recommend visiting; it’s absolutely worth the experience."

10 of the best restaurants for new Catalan cuisine | Food and drink

When Cinc Sentits opened in May 2004 it fast established itself as one of the top places in town – both in terms of quality and price – to sample modern Catalan cooking from Jordi Artal, a self-taught chef who grew up in Canada, but returned to his roots to open the restaurant in Eixample Esquerra. The minimal decor provides a great frame to his elegant, new wave cooking based on local, mostly organic and wild ingredients. Dishes such as Catalan caviar with smoked sturgeon and poached quail's egg, tomato sorbet with garlic "bubbles", and chocolate mousse with arbequina olive oil ice cream and roast macadamias form the foundation of the oft-changing tasting menu.

Every accolade – including two Michelin stars – has been deservedly heaped on Cinc Sentits and its haute take on Catalan cuisine. To maximise the diner's experience of what chef Jordi Artal can do, these days the restaurant only serves fixed menus – eight courses for €185 (£154) or 10 courses for €200 (£166). Expect dishes such as pigeon served three ways, including a paper pouch containing 'false rice' made from its thigh, and some table-side theatre.

With moody lighting, funky fixtures and wood-panelled walls, Cinc Sentits (which, if you hadn’t already guessed, translates as Five Senses in French) is perhaps the most Instagrammable restaurant on our list – even walking over to your table feels glamorous. Once you’re comfortable, this intimate forty-cover restaurant invites you to sample an indulgent tasting menu – there’s no à la carte option – serving small, experimental dishes that challenge your perception of food, from jaw-dropping amuse-bouche to freshly-caught fish. Perhaps what’s most commendable about Cinc Sentits is its commitment to serving delicious food without compromise.

As is common on Barcelona’s fine dining scene, Cinc Sentits is a tasting menu-only restaurant, with a choice between the Tasting Menu or the Light Menu (which, despite what the name suggests, still offers an extensive eight courses). Both menus are coupled with a wine pairing that celebrates Catalan specialties, as well as bottles from the rest of Spain. Cinc Sentits changes its menu regularly to reflect the ever-changing seasons, with head chef Jordi Artal committed to only working with artisan suppliers who hold the same level of respect for ingredients as he does.

The chef believes that to prepare exquisite food, you need the best and freshest ingredients, so in his restaurant, they only use those which have been produced in Catalonia and Spain. Organic beef, dairy, and vegetables, sustainable caviar, and line-caught fish from small fishing villages along the Mediterranean coast are only some of the quality ingredients that pass by Cinc Sentits’ kitchen.
