It’s fair to say that most visitors to Barcelona — or anywhere in Spain for that matter — have “eat paella” on their gastronomic to-do list. With a buzzing patio overlooking busy Playa de Bogatell, this spot could easily be mistaken for a tourist trap. But, in reality, it’s the total opposite. Everyone comes here for the daily selection of grilled fresh fish and raw seafood, like oysters and red shrimp tartare, not to mention excellent seafood paella.

On the sun-drenched promenade overlooking less-touristy Bogatell beach, this breezy and buzzy restaurant serves superb seafood-fired, Mediterranean-view dining away from the Barceloneta crowds. It’s best known for its sharing-style arrossos (rice dishes), all prepared with a splash of creativity using locally sourced ingredients, such as seasonal-veg rice with cashew pesto or arròs del senyoret (a seafood rice dish). The menu also goes big on the fresh catch that changes each day, and a few zippy starters like grilled red prawns sprinkled with salt are just the thing while waiting for your rice to simmer away.

Más que un chiringuito de playa: un restaurante donde el diseño y la gastronomía se unen en una oferta basada en arroces de mar y montaña y productos km 0. Inaugurado en 2017, ha consolidado una oferta que reinventa recetas tradicionales que conservan los aromas pero reducen el nivel de grasa. From north to south, we find Can Fisher, located on Barcelona’s Passeig Marítim, at the height of Poblenou, on the Bogatell beach. Here, the sea is reflected in the fish and seafood that arrives directly from the fish market every day to star in rice dishes or whole pieces cooked in three styles: salt, grilled or Donostian style. They always have on the menu gems like cod confit with tomato concassé, rossinyols and herb aioli au gratin.

For the absolute best rice, fish, and seafood dishes, head to Can Fisher. It’s hands down one of the best places to eat in Barcelona. The beautiful beach setting reminded me of my Southern California home and the food was some of the best I had during my stay in Spain.
