Celebrate Valentine’s Day in luxurious settings with an Asian-inspired three-course dinner at TANG restaurant on 14 February. Priced at R950 per person, dinner will be served in two seatings at 6:30pm or 8:30pm and includes a complimentary glass of Mirabelle Rose per person. The Valentine’s Day set menu includes an amuse-bouche of shiso truffle oysters, an izakaya selection comprising rock shrimp, robata octopus, tuna tataki, pork belly or dim sum; mains include Peking duck, angus fillet or tofu wok; and for dessert, patrons can indulge in a salted caramel fondant or a fortune cookie with ice cream.

After its opening in May 2021, TANG has become one of the hottest place to be and be seen at when visiting Sandton. Patrons can expect a luxurious and sensory dining experience inspired by Japanese izakayas (a casual Japanese bar). The restaurant’s impressive award-winning team of culinary talents, led by seasoned chefs, Vixa Kalenga and Wesley Chen, who are responsible for the incredible and sensational TANG signature dishes, including Peking Duck, Black Cod Miso, Yellowtail sashimi, Wagyu Tomahawk steaks done on robata grills, and a vast sushi and wok selection.

Located on the site previously operated by Wang Thai, TANG is designed by award-winning interior designer, Tristan Du Plessis, the global winner of the 2019 Restaurant and Design Awards. He has infused the 650 sqm space with his signature luxe-with-an-edge style, underscored by a strong focus on elemental design. Inspired by the works of acclaimed architect, Marcio Kogan, and the modern tropical movement, the restaurant has a restrained minimalist luxe feel using materials such as imported marble, honed travertine, wood, and granite.

Situated within Johannesburg’s iconic Nelson Mandela Square, the sexy and sophisticated Tang offers diners modern takes and twists on Asian fare – drawing inspiration from classic Cantonese cooking and the street food found within the izakaya’s of Japan. Separated into sushi, small plates, signature dishes and larger mains, my suggestion would be to order for the table and share amongst guests. The gorgeous setting with its black marble, dark woods and neutral tones create a luxurious and elegant setting in which to indulge.
