"After walking past Signature in Morningside numerous times, we finally decided to book a table for a special occasion—something we’d recommend, as the restaurant tends to get very busy.
At first glance, the setting suggests a fine dining experience, complete with an extensive international wine list. However, the ambiance tells a different story—unexpectedly loud and bustling, which detracted from the sophisticated atmosphere we were hoping for.
We started with a sushi platter, which was fresh and well-prepared—an enjoyable introduction. For mains, we each chose different steak dishes, which were the highlight of the evening: well-cooked and accompanied by interesting vegetable sides. Unfortunately, the ribs we ordered were underwhelming—plain in flavour and not reflective of their premium price.
The biggest disappointment was the overall experience. While the presentation and wine selection impressed, the high noise levels, inconsistent dish quality, and steep pricing (expect to pay over R1,200 per person, with wine starting around R1,000 per bottle) left us feeling underwhelmed. At that price point, we expected an exceptional and memorable evening—something Signature didn’t deliver.
Verdict: Stylish but noisy, pricey without delivering consistent value. We won’t be returning."
