If you can’t get in to the Test Kitchen, then you may have better luck at Luke Dale-Roberts’ other celebrated restaurant just around the corner. However, given the waves that The Pot Luck Club has been making of late, it’s highly unlikely you’ll find a table without considerable advanced planning. As the name suggests, this is a restaurant where sharing is encouraged and, with foods specifically targeting various flavour profiles, you’ll want to savour everything that arrives at your table.

A meal at this playful and inventive tapas-style venture from Cape Town star-chef Luke Dale Roberts always promises fabulous fun. With great harbor and mountain views from its position on the sixth floor of a renovated silo, this hip eatery serves an eclectic but clearly Asian-influenced array of fine-dining nibbles. Although the menu changes regularly, a few regulars like the smoked beef fillet with truffle café au lait and ceviche avocado tacos remain favorites.

There are surprisingly few restaurants with views in the city, which is just one of several excellent reasons to book here well in advance. It’s located in the silo of the original Woodstock Biscuit Mill; inside, chef Jason Kosmas and executive chef Luke Dale Roberts serve signature-style Asian-influenced tapas menu along with fabulous city and mountain views. There are two seatings; I’d opt for the earlier to enjoy the change from sunset to city lights.

Brunch at Pot Luck Club is quite the affair, and it only happens on Sundays (starting at 11am). There's a set menu of tapas dishes at a fixed price, like fish tacos and springbok carpaccio, and you can pay a surcharge to enjoy unlimited (local) bubbly. Many restaurants are linked to wine estates, which promote their own wine first and foremost. Top 5 star hotels such as the One&Only Cape Town, the Table Bay, Queen Victoria, Steenberg Hotel, The Alphen, and more were visible by their absence.
