What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Salsify at The Roundhouse is lauded for its innovative fine dining, stunning views, and exceptional service, offering a memorable culinary journey. While many praise the tasting menu and unique pre-dinner rituals, some diners find the pacing between courses to be too slow, extending the dining experience significantly. Despite this, the restaurant is frequently highlighted as a top-tier dining destination in Cape Town.
"Salsify offers a very special dining experience. Upon arrival I was offered an aromatic hand wash with salt scrub. I was then guided to an antechamber containing incredible wall art, a shelf full of assorted ingredients and a small bar. I was served an amuse-bouche with accompanying small cocktail while the services shared many interesting details of the houses history and prior owners. We then preceded to the dining room, where each table has a phenomenal view of the coast and 12 apostles. I chose the full tasting menu, but did not opt for the wine pairing. Each course was beautiful and delicious, but the services and overall experience was really the stand-out for me."

"Overall, a good experience but with one critical flaw that required me to dock a star.
To start with, the food here is fantastic. We enjoyed an excellent 8-course (plus a couple extra) tasting menu that was nearly flawless (though the taste of whiskey in the ice cream dessert was a bit overpowering). The wagyu was probably the best I’ve ever had.
The staff were very attentive, friendly, and informative. I really enjoyed the experience at the beginning of the night when they told us about the history of the restaurant and gave us an introductory bite/drink.
The primary issue with our experience was the unreasonable amount of time they make you wait between dishes. We arrived at 7:45PM and did not leave until 11:30PM because we had to sit there and wait for 20-30 minutes between each dish. By the time the salad came out, we were already 2 hours into the experience. Unacceptable.
The experience resulted in a bloated, almost 4-hour experience that should have taken 2-hours at any five star tasting menu restaurant."

"I can easily say this is the best all round restaurant experience I’ve ever had. The menu was pleasing to the mouth and the eyes. I had a wine pairing and it was beautiful but I also really appreciated how they had a ‘soft’ pairing for my non drinking friends. They were also very accommodating with substitutions which I appreciated.
From the hand scrub at the welcoming to the welcoming room with the art on the walls and the local ingredients in the cocktail and snacks it was a great experience. As a historian I loved how they told us a story about the place’s roots and appreciated details about the art. Amazing evening all around."
