1st Slovak Pub is somewhat touristy, but it’s a fun place to go for a few Slovak beers, a small snack, and a loud, jolly atmosphere. The restaurant’s 14 rooms each represent a different period of history with original decorations and furniture, making 1st Slovak Pub a kind of time-capsule. Most weeknights there’s traditional, live accordion music too, and the Slovak cuisine prepared here is basic, but fresh, with ingredients sourced from a local farm.

A short walk from Papichulo sits the opposite end of the Bratislavian drinking spectrum: the accurately-named Slovak Pub, a meandering 11-room experience built around a 150-year-old cottage with the beer brewed on premises in the basement. The wide-planked wood floor is dark brown and insanely uneven, worn and colored from the boots of untold thousands of locals who meet here daily for the fantastic house lager at $1.75 per half-liter. Each room of Slovak Pub is designed around an era of Slovakian history, with the main large cottage hall (Štúr’s Room) festooned with weathered paintings honoring intellectuals who codified the Slovak language in the 1800s, leading to a renewed patriotism and shared history for the country.

This is not only one of the largest restaurants in the city, it’s a fantastic spot to unwind in a traditional Slovak drinking establishment while learning about the nation’s history, with each room designed thematically to reflect parts in Slovakia’s past. They also stock the largest selection of beers in the city, with all of the ones we sampled being of great quality – the best we’ve had outside of Prague. All of the food at this timber pub is proudly made using produce from their own bio farm, offering classic Slovak dishes like halušky, pierogi, soup in bread, sausage platters and podplamenniky (traditional Slovak pizza) – all at great prices.

Our first stop of the weekend was the famed Slovak Pub, and as the name suggests it's a traditional Slovakian pub and restaurant, known for traditional and affordable food. We ordered a couple of their own beers while browsing the menu, and we decided to try their garlic soup served in a bowl made of bread (tastes like the best garlic bread you'll ever have), and a platter of assorted Slovakian dishes including dumplings with sheep's cheese (bryndzové halušky). The soft, tangy cheese, a Slovakian speciality, is sprinkled over potato dumplings which are similar to Italian gnocchi in texture, along with with pieces of smoked bacon and sausage.

The largest bar in Bratislava , as well as one of the most popular, this 500 seater pub next to the university is divided into eleven rooms, each dedicated to a certain stage of Slovakia's history, including an original 200-year-old wooden shepherd's hut, which was taken apart and then put back together using 80% of the original materials. One room is dedicated to Slovak intellectuals from the 1800's, another to poets, one to Pribina's Knights and one to a famous Slovak highwayman. It is one of very few pubs in Slovakia to have its own brick cellar cask larder, storing cask-conditioned beer at 8°C before being mildly cooled before serving.

While out sightseeing I stopped into the Slovak Pub for lunch. Slovak Pub is owned by the same restaurant group that runs Bratislava Flagship Restaurant and has many of the same traditional Slovak dishes on the menu, served in eleven rooms each dedicated to a different era of Slovak history. It’s a hotspot for both university students and tourists and is located on Obchodná, a popular commercial corridor lined with shops and restaurants that has a tram line running along it, making it easy to get to from other parts of Old Town.

Slovak Pub, a typical pub that might not catch your attention from outside, but serves traditional & local food without flourish. The place is victim of its success though, so be prepared to wait for your dish if you go there for rush hours. The garlic soup is one of the must eat of this place, but please, just as a sign of respect for human beings, or at least for the person you’re gonna meet afterwards, don’t order this dish before a date.

With plenty of affordable places to eat in Bratislava, it’d be rude to leave without tucking into some Slovakian cuisine. The Slovak Sharing Platter at Slovak Pub is a great way to sample a selection of three regional specialties. My favourite was the halusky (dumplings) with cabbage and bacon (€13.50), and alongside these you can tuck into halusky in sheeps’ cheese and pirogi dumplings.

Along the way, you’ll visit popular establishments such as The Slovak Pub, known for its authentic Slovak cuisine and wide selection of local beers. You’ll also stop by Subclub, a legendary underground venue that hosts live music and DJs. The Old Town Trail pub crawl is a great choice for those who want to experience the traditional side of Bratislava’s nightlife.

Slovak food is something most people will have never experienced before coming to Slovakia itself. To give you an idea, just imagine German-style food with roast meats, goulash, breaded chicken and pork cutlets, and hearty soups. There are some local specialties as well, notably Bryndzové Halušky which is like gnocchi with melted sheep cheese and fried bacon.

If you just have one day in Bratislava, make sure to eat lunch or dinner at Slovak Pub. Here you can tuck into tasty Slovakian dishes and try Kofola, the communist version of Coca-Cola, made when the Soviets banned the American beverage. Prices at this cosy pub are so affordable that I ordered two lunches (and finished them) just to try two different things.

Slovakia is great for cheap beer and our favourite watering hole was the Slovak pub. This is the biggest pub in Bratislava (but it actually felt pretty small) and you can sit in different themed rooms. Pints of local beer are around €1.50.

In this case, I would recommend Bratislava Flag Ship Restaurant which is owned by the same guy who owns Slovak Pub. It has far more room (which is an advantage in the evening) and - if I'm not mistaken - wider selection of meals.

Slovak Pub has to be one of the biggest, most beautiful, and best pubs in Bratislava. In total there must be at least 10 rooms, each one of which is it's own unique beer drinkers paradise. It's like drinking in a palace.

For traditional (and also cheap) Slovak food, Slovak Pub is always a good idea. Overall, this place is really confusing. There are a lot of smaller rooms within the restaurant and I still get lost in there every time.

Then once we opened the door to go into the main area of Slovak pub… it was a hype of activity. There were throngs of people, enjoying mountains of food and drinks on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

The pub-restaurant on the second floor of the building is quite large. There are several different halls for smokers and non-smokers alike. The interior has the warmth of a cozy wooden bar.

The Dubliner is the classic Irish pub, always very popular and a great place to drink a good Guinness beer. Every night the bar hosts live music and the atmosphere is always very festive.
