Reviews Summary

Odette offers an exceptional fine-dining experience, lauded for its exquisite, artfully presented dishes and attentive service. Diners frequently praise the culinary creativity and the overall sophisticated ambiance. However, some guests find the experience to be overpriced or underwhelming, with occasional critiques regarding seating, ambiance, and specific dish flavors.

"My boyfriend arranged a late birthday celebration for me at Odette, and it was truly special. It was my first time dining at a 3-star Michelin restaurant, and the experience definitely lived up to the reputation.

We had the course meal with wine pairing. While we generally prefer red wine, the staff did a wonderful job accommodating that preference, even though the menu leaned more toward seafood—which typically pairs better with white. They found a thoughtful balance that allowed us to enjoy some reds too, which we really appreciated.

The service was excellent—genuine and attentive. It didn’t feel like they were just going through the motions; you can tell they truly care about the experience they’re giving their guests.

The food had a very homey, nostalgic feel to it. Each dish brought a sense of comfort, which is rare at fine dining establishments. It’s something we’ll remember for a long time.

All in all, a beautiful evening and a truly 3-star experience. Highly recommend!"

"Overpriced, Overhyped, and Utterly Underwhelming

I recently celebrated my birthday at Odette, a 3-Michelin-star restaurant that promised an unforgettable culinary journey. Unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the most disappointing fine dining experiences I’ve ever had.

We were seated right in front of the kitchen—a spot I initially thought would be interesting, but it offered no privacy. Staff constantly walked past us, and the seating arrangement (three round tables back-to-back) meant we could clearly hear the full conversations from the table behind us. This noisy, distracting environment was far from the refined ambiance expected at such an establishment.

As for the food—the main event—it was surprisingly ordinary. Presentation was uninspired, flavors lacked depth, and the lighting at our table did nothing to enhance the visual appeal of the dishes.
• Normandy Brown Crab – Pretty to look at, but the avocado jelly was tasteless, and there was barely any crab meat.
• Rosemary Smoked Organic Egg – Over-the-top dry ice theatrics, but ultimately just an overpriced soft-boiled egg.
• Langoustine ‘Comme un Dumpling’ – Couldn’t taste the langoustine at all. Even with a $98 add-on, the quality didn’t justify the price.
• Seaweed Butter Poached Scallop – Pleasant but flat; it lacked the complexity and depth expected from a 3-star dish.
• Scottish Blue Lobster – Perfectly cooked, but the sauce clashed with the lobster’s delicate flavor.
• Aveyron Lamb Saddle – Tough, overly gamey, and unenjoyable.
• ‘Ispahan’ Vacherin – Cheap-looking, overly sweet, artificial-tasting, and served with mediocre ice cream. We barely touched it, and the waiter cleared it without asking for feedback—service far from fine dining standards.

Ironically, the best dish wasn’t even on the main menu—it was the palate cleanser before dessert. The delicate crispy leaf, paired with icy mint and lime sorbet, offered the surprise, texture, and harmony that I had hoped to find throughout the meal.

Adding to the disappointment, we were handed jars of jam as parting gifts—without any mention that they needed refrigeration and should be consumed within two weeks. I only discovered this a month later, rendering them inedible.

Overall, Odette failed to deliver on its reputation. I expected innovation, bold flavors, and exquisite presentation, but the experience felt safe, uninspired, and overpriced. For a bill exceeding $1,000—with not even a parking coupon offered—this was a complete letdown."

Yvonne Cheah

"A qualified wine connoisseur will strive to experience every type of wine they can. The service is of three-star standard, and the table is promptly cleared of bread crumbs. Each wine is accompanied by a complete story behind it, which I really appreciate. The most memorable dish was the mustard-flavored ice cream, a soulful combination. The pigeon was also excellently prepared and I think it can perfectly replace duck breast as a main course. The wines selected were quite good. For the final sweet wine, "DONG QU" was chosen and it was quite a pleasant surprise. Seeing the Chinese yellow wine on such a stage made me feel very proud. However, it was a bit too heavy for me. I added a few more glasses of sweet wine, which was still a decent conclusion."

MICHELIN Guide

9 MICHELIN-Starred Restaurants that Offer a Vegetarian Experience

Recently awarded three MICHELIN Stars, the highest accolade in the MICHELIN Guide, Odette is an ode to chef Julien Royer’s grandmother, who, according to him, “showed me how the most remarkable dishes can come from the purest ingredients.” The modern French restaurant also reflects Royer’s lifelong respect for seasonality and terroir by sourcing produce from boutique suppliers and artisans all around the world. At Odette, Royer takes pride in treating the ingredients with utmost care to bring out their purest flavours. Some of the restaurant's vegetarian highlights of the season are the Promenade à Singapour, which features a selection of over 20 vegetables including shio kombu, spring leaves, green oxalis, and tarragon flower, all foraged and farmed right in Singapore, and Fleurs de Courgette Farcies 'Provençale', which is a dish of zucchini flowers filled with ricotta, confit bell pepper, and fragrant Menton lemon. What Our MICHELIN Inspectors Say About Odette: Chef Julien Royer earned unanimous acclaim with Odette, a fine dining concept that emphasises a comprehensive experience.

By day, natural light floods this beguiling pastel-hued dining room, which is dressed in shades of oyster, pearl, and dusky pink. Anchoring the space is a stunning hanging installation by Singaporean artist Dawn Ng, who spent months photographing ingredients like black truffles, scallop shells, and tuna loin before transferring the images to materials like oak, copper, paper and polyform and cutting them out out by hand. Diners perch on plump booths or armchairs; tables are nicely spaced out.

Top 10 Places To Eat Out In Singapore

Serving up mod French cuisine within the extremely chic surroundings of the National Gallery of Singapore, Odette, the passion project of chef/owner Julien Royer, has earned a huge reputation since arriving on the culinary scene in 2015, as well as three Michelin stars in the 2019 guide, the number one spot on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants lists and the number 18 position on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. Obviously with so many awards to its credit it is redundant to state that the artful menu is a triumph, but special mention also needs to go to the décor; the subtle and sophisticated fit out is rendered in shades of nude, blush pink and white (which don’t detract from the food), with artworks by Dawn Ng and a glass box of a kitchen that puts it at the heart of the space.
