Found in the Gran Cruz House, now a hotel in a 16th-century building formerly used as a trade house for coffee, Casario undoubtedly has some of the best tables among Porto's restaurants. The restaurant is sleek but holds on to its Portuguese traditions; expect a huge range of local wines, and port made just across the river. Food is classic—cured salmon with figs to start followed by pork belly with cabbage and garlic sauce—but we’d highly recommend the tasting menu, chosen by the chef.

Kick off your time in Porto with a perfect culinary introduction, at this elegant restaurant on the banks of the Douro River – dishing up classic Portuguese dishes with a seasonal, contemporary twist. The trendy interior, dressed in warm woods and deep orange, spills out on to a sunny terrace made for long, lazy lunches. Casario is the in-house restaurant of Gran Cruz House, whose name is inspired by the historic jumble of houses surrounding the hotel. The restaurant is led by chefs Chef Miguel Castro Silva and Chef José Guedes a partnership which has stemmed from their work together over several years at the restaurant De Castro Gaia at Espaço Porto Cruz. If you want to be guided by the chef their five-course tasting menu will take you on a journey using smaller portions from the a la carte menu.

Nestled inside Gran Cruz House, Restaurante Casario invites travelers to indulge in authentic dishes amidst breathtaking waterfront views. Situated in one of the most historic squares of Porto, which is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Restaurante Casario received its name from its unique location. Chefs Miguel Castro Silva and José Guedes recommend ordering two to three dishes to achieve a well-rounded tasting experience.

Unlike other fine dining restaurants, Casario has affordable menus starting at €48 for a 5-course menu.

In the same neighbourhood as Terreiro, but this time up a flight of stone steps on a picturesque terrace overlooking the river, you’ll find Casario. With its stunning sunset views, the location is ultra-touristy; the food is anything but. Dishes are designed to be shared, so we started with two cold items: seabass tartar and veal carpaccio.

One thing about Porto: there’s a great view wherever you look. It’s impossible not to be charmed by this rugged, colourful city. Nowhere will you feel more in love with the place than down by the river, where you can stroll along to the Dom Luís I bridge or gaze across the water to Gaia.

Yet amid this lively chaos, there is a haven: a restaurant called Casario. This cozy space, with its terrace overlooking the river, is a collaboration between Granvinhos, the port wine company behind Quinta de Ventozelo, and two virtuoso chefs: Miguel Castro e Silva and José Guedes.

Our day started with a fabulous hotel breakfast at the Gran Cruz House in the Casario restaurant. You could order as much or as little as you liked and sit inside or on the second floor terrance. We went down at 9 am and got a wonderful table on the balcony.
