What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Tapisco is celebrated for its innovative fusion of Spanish tapas and Portuguese petiscos, with many diners raving about the tuna tartare and squid ink paella. The atmosphere, especially sitting at the bar to watch the open kitchen, is a significant draw. However, some guests have noted that the service can be slow at times, and a few found certain dishes to be average or not living up to the Michelin-starred reputation and prices.
"It was an amazing dinner experience! Where to start? All the dishes were well prepared, full of taste. If I had to pick one, I would say the tuna tartar was the best of all! We also got the tomato bread, the patatas bravas, the squid ink paella, two glasses of wine and two desserts; the chocolate mousse and the sweet rice with caramelized apples. Everything was AMAZING.
I seriously don’t understand the 1 star reviews..
I understand why some people would the service slow, but in my opinion all the dishes were served in the correct amount of time.
The staff was super polite and helpful
The only “negative” opinion I have is that the way the sauce-mayonnaise is placed over the patatas bravas and the paella makes it look a bit like “fast food”. I feel as if it takes away a bit of the visual quality of the dish. Nevertheless, it was fantastic. I would definitely recommend it to everyone and might even visit it a second time (which says a lot as I am a tourist in Lisbon and my time here is limited). Also, I am Greek so my standards in regards to food are rather high :)"

"I sat at the bar in the atmosphere was really nice. You get to watch all the food being prepared, which is a nice experience if you’re solo dining.
Most of the folks at the bar were in the same situation, and everyone seemed to love their food and their time at the restaurant. Pretty slim menu, which is good for decision-making. I had the octopus salad, seafood rice, and grilled vegetables. I probably would skip the grilled vegetables next time because they were pretty soft, but the rest was really delicious."

"I went here on a solo dinner and it was an amazing experience. I was seated at the bar right in front of the kitchen so I could watch everything being prepared which kept me entertained while alone.
I had the marinated fish, the salted cod and life changing chocolate mousse. Everything was just absolutely delicious.
The staff were really kind and polite which helped as sometimes I can feel nervous dining alone.
I would go back here in a heartbeat to try more of the dishes, hopefully the next time I'm visiting Lisbon."

Spanish, Moroccan and Iranian restaurants in Lisbon
This restaurant, led by chef Henrique Sá Pessoa, is a harmonious union of Spanish "tapas" and Portuguese snacks. First order a vermouth, the house drink; then go for the bombastic croquettes, scarf down your "huevos rotos" broken eggs and peck at some "patatas bravas". The menu has big platters of paella, Iberian pork "presa" or the more Portuguese braised green peas with Alentejo chorizo.
Best places to eat typical petiscos (aka Portuguese tapas) in Lisbon
The name Tapisco is literally a hybrid between “tapa” and “petisco”, thus referring to the kinds of foods you are going to find when you visit this Baixa-Chiado address by celebrity Michelin starred chef Henrique Sá Pessoa. Their signature petiscos may not be the affordable affair eating small platters out in Lisbon often is, but it’s worth the not so large splurge if you’d like to taste high quality Iberian black pork jamón ibérico de Bellota served Spanish style in tomato and garlic soaked bread slices, or skilfully cooked dishes like açorda de gambas, a Portuguese savory bread and garlic porridge with shrimp, or the stewed peas with chorizo from the Alentejo. These are not your everyday kind of petiscos, but very worth it for a special occasion!

Where to Find the Best Food in Lisbon, Portugal
I’m not sure I ever would have believed that I’d a.) be talked into ordering cuttlefish and b.) like these fried critters so much that I almost went twice in one trip for them, but that was the case for me at this tapas + petiscos (Spanish + Portuguese) restaurant, aptly named Tapisco. Tapisco felt super casual in the best way possible; it’s a no-fuss space with smiling staff you kind of want to be friends with, serving high quality food. Start your night off with the specialty cocktail, the Principe, made with Gin Nordés, Cucumber, Mint, and Vermouth Yzaguirre Blanco.
The Best Tapas Restaurants in Lisbon
A common misconception is that all of the best restaurants in Lisbon must fall under the Bairro Alto, Chiado or Alfama zones. This is largely untrue, and if you take a free guided walking tour through the center you’ll come to find that some of the best restaurants are actually gathering just north of these areas, on the outlying streets. Tapisco Lisboa sits right above Bairro Alto, just before the main road where one would enter into the neighborhood’s perimeter.
