My favourite is always going to be Solar dos Presuntos, a world-famous restaurant which will require booking in advance and an empty stomach before visiting. If you want a quick and simple Portuguese meal of great god or grilled meats make sure to visit Zé da Mouraria, still the best in what they do. If you want to experience a real Lisbon old-school vibe make sure to book an evening table at Tasca Bela, an old-fashioned place with Portuguese food and incredible fado singers that will make you feel "saudades" of Lisbon straight away!

It’s worth forking out a little bit extra to get the really good stuff. You can buy it freshly sliced in good delicatessens where they will have different hams made from different kinds of pig, acorn or chestnut-fed, with different ages – some are cured for as much as three years.Ask for 50g of something really expensive (€5-€9 for those 50g) and a bit of cheese to make a picnic of it in the park. Beware, in restaurants, of plates of presunto if you haven’t asked for them… eat it, and you may pay more than €10 for the privilege.

This is a classic restaurant that has been serving three generations of wine consumers, and it is still alive and kicking with one of the most extensive wine lists to be found in a traditional restaurant. Prices have remained low over these years so if you’re looking for cheap eats without compromising on flavor then this is definitely the spot!!
