What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Solar dos Presuntos is highly recommended for its exceptional seafood and traditional Portuguese cuisine, with many praising the quality of ingredients and generous portions. However, some diners have noted long wait times for mains and issues with unsolicited charges for complimentary items.
"Nestled in one of Lisbon’s charming bylanes, Solar Dos Presuntos might not be the easiest place to find, but discovering it is well worth the effort. Unlike the many tourist traps scattered across the city, this authentic establishment is primarily frequented by locals—a telltale sign of quality and tradition.
From the moment you step inside, the warm and inviting atmosphere sets the tone for an exceptional culinary experience. To start, guests are greeted with a delightful spread of cured meats, cheese, olives, and mixed bread, a perfect prelude to the feast ahead.
Seafood lovers will be in for a treat here. The freshness and quality of their seafood are impeccable, reflecting the expertise of a kitchen that truly understands flavors. Some standout dishes that keep us coming back include the Breaded Prawns with Tomato Rice, Fillets of John Dory with Tomato Rice, and Grilled Grouper with Smashed Potatoes and Greens. Their signature tomato rice, served alongside many dishes, deserves a special mention—it’s rich, flavorful, and comforting. A charming touch to the dining experience is the courteous servers who generously offer extra helpings of tomato rice, ensuring that every bite remains as satisfying as the first.
For those with a sweet tooth, the dessert selection is equally impressive. Our personal favorites include the Almond Tart, traditional Portuguese Custard, and the extraordinary Creamy Pão de Ló from Solar, which is a unique and indulgent treat.
With its impeccable service, fresh ingredients, and thoughtfully curated menu, Solar Dos Presuntos has become a staple in our Lisbon itinerary. Each visit reinforces why this restaurant holds such a special place in the city’s gastronomic scene. We can’t wait to return on our next holiday!"

"An Unforgettable Dining Experience at Solar dos Presuntos
From start to finish, our visit to Solar dos Presuntos was nothing short of exceptional. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between tradition and elegance, setting the stage for what turned out to be a truly memorable meal.
We started with a selection of tapas and cheeses, each bursting with authentic Portuguese flavors — a perfect way to awaken the palate. The lobster soup was rich, velvety, and packed with flavor, easily one of the best we’ve ever tasted. And then came the star of the meal: a perfectly cooked medium steak, tender, juicy, and seasoned to perfection. Every bite was a reminder of the kitchen’s skill and attention to detail.
Beyond the incredible food, what really stood out was the impeccable service. The staff was professional, friendly, and genuinely passionate about what they do. Attentive without being overbearing, they made us feel welcome and well cared for throughout the entire evening.
Solar dos Presuntos delivers not just a meal, but a full culinary experience."

"Amazing restaurant! Definitely deserves a 5 star rating.
The atmosphere and environment in the restaurant was top quality. The food is traditional Portuguese and will not disappoint, it was some of the best I've had in any restaurant in Lisbon.
Considering the quality, I would say the restaurant is reasonably priced. It was around 25-35 euros for mains with the portions being very generous.
I'll definitely be back soon!"

Where Lisbon locals go for lunch
Solar dos Presuntos, situated near the Lavra elevator in downtown Lisbon, is an emblem of traditional Portuguese cuisine, making it a prime spot for both executive lunches during the week and family gatherings on weekends. Noted for its slightly upscale ambiance, with main dishes priced around 20/25 euros, it attracts a clientele that includes executives, some celebrities, and a harmonious blend of staff and regulars, all gathered in a setting that radiates joy. Open since 1974, the year of the Portuguese revolution that brought us democracy, Solar dos Presuntos pays homage to the rich gastronomic traditions of Minho, a region known for its lush landscapes and hearty cuisine.
Where To Eat The Best Seafood In Lisbon
Though the name suggests this spot’s all about the ham (and yes, the presunto is excellent), it’s the seafood that keeps Lisbon’s culinary cognoscenti coming back for seconds. Opening in 1974, it’s watched the Avenida da Liberdade transform from a shabby thoroughfare to the city’s most glamorous address, all while maintaining its commitment to impeccable ingredients treated with respect. The scarlet prawns are served ‘au naturel’ simply on ice, allowing their sweet flesh to shine, while the rice with lobster requires 24 hours’ notice – and deserves every minute of the wait.
Our Team Picks... What to do in Lisbon with eased restrictions
My favourite is always going to be Solar dos Presuntos, a world-famous restaurant which will require booking in advance and an empty stomach before visiting. If you want a quick and simple Portuguese meal of great god or grilled meats make sure to visit Zé da Mouraria, still the best in what they do. If you want to experience a real Lisbon old-school vibe make sure to book an evening table at Tasca Bela, an old-fashioned place with Portuguese food and incredible fado singers that will make you feel "saudades" of Lisbon straight away!
The top foods to try in Lisbon
It’s worth forking out a little bit extra to get the really good stuff. You can buy it freshly sliced in good delicatessens where they will have different hams made from different kinds of pig, acorn or chestnut-fed, with different ages – some are cured for as much as three years.Ask for 50g of something really expensive (€5-€9 for those 50g) and a bit of cheese to make a picnic of it in the park. Beware, in restaurants, of plates of presunto if you haven’t asked for them… eat it, and you may pay more than €10 for the privilege.
The 12 best wine restaurants in Lisbon 2025
Close to the Avenida da Liberdade, you will find Solar dos Presuntos. This is a classic restaurant that has been serving three generations of wine consumers, and it is still alive and kicking with one of the most extensive wine lists to be found in a traditional restaurant. In addition to the international wines, which are paired with the very Portuguese cuisine, the list also (and aptly) showcases some of the big wine names of Portugal, alongside some tiny projects that will blow your mind when it comes to quality versus price.
