What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Diners rave about the breathtaking views and artistic, delicious food, often highlighting the exceptional value of the tasting menus. While many praise the impeccable service, a few reviewers noted inconsistencies, with some experiencing less attentive staff and minor issues with drink quality. The elegant ambiance and unique setting are consistently lauded.
"I've honestly never had better food, this was the best meal of my life. We had the tasting menu with wine pairings, and everything was absolutely delicious. Staff were very attentive too.
The only thing I would say is that portions were maybe a bit too big for a tasting menu, we left absolutely stuffed! But that is just an indication of how good value this place is for the quality that you get. Stunning views over Funchal too."

"You can do much better!! Sorry guys, not worth the money!
First, when we arrived in the floor where the elevator lets you out, many employees were running around but no one cares about you. After we asked someone where the restaurant is, someone told us some kind of impolite: we have to wait at the small shop, someone picks us up. Ok 👍 after the pickup, they brought us to the restaurant with another elevator. So far, so good.
There are four waiters running this restaurant. Only one is smiling while talking to you. The other ones are not interested and very neutral. 😐 why is that? No smalltalk? Not even ONE was asking, if we liked the food after every course.
Only „are you finished?“…
The Aperol Spritz was made with an old Prosecco and we got a new one after telling the bad quality of the Aperol. Also no one asked, if we want some wine for the dinner…
When the main course arrived, the waitress noticed, that there is no wine and asked us, if we want some…But much to late…sorry.
Come on guys! You had only 6-8 tables to serve with a team of 4!
The meals are really nice decorated and very tasty. No complaining about the food, but the service is a challenge.
Also: why is there 8 Euros for the bread and butter called „couvert“ on the bill?
We didn’t order that… bread and butter is complementary in a restaurant. Why do you charge it as a service fee? After noticing that, I regret to gave you a tip, because you already grab 8 Euros for bread.
Don’t get me wrong, the food is really tasty and really nice on the plate, but you could be Full House every night with a good service team.
Sorry guys, not worth the money! Not even a warm wish for the guests when they leave…
„Thank you for being with us“ OR „have a good night“ is a minimum I expect as a guest. So sad… 😞 that’s the coldest service I had for a long time.
My recommendation: don’t go there! There are tons of better places in town."

"Beautiful restaurant with ocean view, superbly designed, and with impeccable service. The waiter was very knowledgeable about wine, and tool his time explaining each one, and even recommanding vineyards to visit on our trip according to our tastes. The ravioli, the red snapper, the meringue sorbet palate cleanser and the desert were all delicious. To give them a perfect score, I just wished they seasoned the sides that came with the black angus steak, they tasted a bit bland."

The best restaurants in Madeira
Funchal-born Nini Andrade Silva is one of Portugal’s most famous interior designers, and this cultural centre set in a 17th-century fort certainly has her touch with the rounded sofas dotting the rooms like giant pebbles taken out of the island’s beaches. Most people head here for the restaurant and the terrace views – you’re just above Funchal’s port. The menu offers a play on regional cuisine with a touch of Asian flavours like the fish of the day drizzled with makrut lime or the black Angus with glazed pack choi and Madeira wine sauce.
Architecture in Madeira: Traveling through the Past and Future Way
The uniqueness of the garden’s design, which blends nicely with nature, has served as a main attraction factor for visitors to have a fantastic experience by immersing themselves in the surroundings. One more uncommon thing is the Nini Design Center, an innovative brand that offers spaces for exhibitions, workshops, and a museum for study purposes. The gravity-defying contemporary museum was designed by award-winning architect Paulo David. Seemingly disproportionate lines, the main materials being concrete and glass, make a deliberate contrast against the traditional island’s architecture, as if the magnificent structure defies gravity; however, the result is respectful to its surroundings.
A Foodie’s Guide to the Best Restaurants in Funchal, Madeira
Exhibition space, restaurant, events venue and rooftop bar all rolled into one, the Design Centre is worth a wander around just to marvel at the interior alone. Designer Nini Andrade Silva has used the oval-shaped stones that you find throughout Madeira as the inspiration for her design, from the chairs and tables to the sun loungers and the artwork. On a warm day, head up to the terrace for a drink overlooking the Atlantic: the white sangria is refreshing and filled with fruit (which makes it somewhat healthy if you eat it all afterwards?!).
The Island Treasures of Madeira
One of the most special sights on the island – regardless of what time of the year it is – is the Nini Andrade Silva Design Center, which occupies the old fort and offers a panoramic view of the ocean and the city of Funchal. The center’s restaurant and bar serve a delicious menu created by talented chef and cookbook author Júlio Pereira, integrating the island’s own ingredients into a contemporary style of cooking. Pereira has worked in São Tomé and Angola and is a researcher of Madeiran culinary traditions.
