Reviews Summary

Cantinho dos Reis is a beloved local spot praised for its authentic Portuguese cuisine and exceptional value, with hearty portions at local prices. While many rave about the friendly staff and cozy atmosphere, some diners have experienced slow service during peak times or found certain dishes to be unremarkable.

"Absolutely superb ! Good food, no frills, good prices, wonderful staff (and 81 years young owner) and a fantastic atmosphere."

"This restaurant is very popular with locals, it was busy when we arrived and remained so throughout with most diners being greeted like old friends. We were pointed upstairs, there is also tables outside but on a cool June night these were not laid out.
There seemed lots of staff and olives, bread, pate and our wine quickly arrived. However it then proved really difficult to get our order taken.
Eventually the owner started taking the order of a couple who had arrived well after us, they were clearly not decided and lots of discussion about the menu and wines on offer seemed to be occurring. Would have probably have left if we hadn't started on the wine etc.
The pork belly was OK but the skin and fat was not crisp. The veal chop was massive but unevenly cooked, one section was too gristly to eat.
However the rice and beans were very good. With a litre of wine the bill came to 32.60 euros.
Would not return."

"It was 39°C and we went there to get something cold to drink (around lunch time). The waiter was very unenthuastic, maybe due to the heat, i wouldn't blame him. They had lemonade and ice tea on the menu, which wasn't available. So we ordered water instead, which was served in a plastic bottle at room temperature!! He seemed very confused when we just wanted to order drinks and some bread & olives. I considered leaving at that point. Can't say anything about the food, but the drinks and service were abysmal. Would not recommend..."

Recommended to us by a Coimbra local, Cantinho do Reis was our favourite place in Coimbra for a hearty great-value lunch. We feasted on moorish bacalhau (baked salt cod), flavourful chanfana (goat stew) and delicious roast duck. At 7-8 euros per dish, this was an absolute steal!.
