Bar Prasowy on Marszałkowska 10 is easily my favorite milk bar in Warsaw. Although it has been in business for over 60 years, it has been renovated, modernized and uses Ikea furniture and dishware. The locale hosts events and lectures occasionally on weekends and I have even personally witnessed a Travel Channel film crew interview workers for a program on “best international eats.” Unlike some milk bars, the flour based dishes are handmade to order (you can see the cooks kneading the dough and making the food) – so there is usually about a 10 minute wait for pierogi or naleśniki.

Open since 1954, this local fave still serves tasty and cheap Polish food. Milk Bars were a governmental program during the Soviet times to create cafeterias offering local meals at the lowest prices. Praswoy has a typical and simple interior providing various dumplings, plus a nice variety of kotlet schabowy (Polish version of Wiener Schnitzel), bigos (meat stew with sauerkraut and shredded fresh cabbage), placki ziemniaczane (potato pancakes), naleśniki (crepes), and others.

Bar Mleczny Prasowy (Marszakowska 10/16; tel. 22/628-44-27) is particularly quaint and the place to go if you have time to visit only one. The coffee is awful, but where else can you get scrambled eggs for 3.50 z at 7am on a weekday?. Go soon; these old diner-like digs are dwindling fast in a gentrifying city.

Many of them, like the popular Prasowy on Marszałkowska Street or Gdański on Gen. Władysława Andersa Street, have more-or-less caught up to modern and mainstream standards. In the city center, stop by Bambino. For a more classic vibe, go to Rusałka on the Praga side of the river.

We chose Prasowy (established back in 1954), but visiting any milk bar in Warsaw is worth your time and taste buds. A wide range of good, old, traditional Polish dishes for a very wallet-friendly price. Try out pierogi, potato pancakes, beet soup, or a glass of kefir (sour milk).

Visiting a milk bar ( bar mleczny) is a uniquely Polish experience. And Warsaw is one of the best places in Poland to go for it!. Milk bars are among the few leftovers from the post-WWII communist era that aren’t shunned by Poles.

Jumped on a bus and decided to check in at the hostel, however on my way I stopped to get some food at a popular milk bar called Prasowy.

It's milk bar, i.e. they offer affordable simple polish meals based on flour, eggs and milk. It's cheap, clean, good quality and taste.

For a traditional Milk Bar, try Prasowy, which features authentic dishes such as cabbage soup and pierogi for ridiculously low prices.
