Reviews Summary

Restauracja Wierzynek offers a highly impressive dining experience with beautiful historic interiors and delicious, well-presented traditional Polish cuisine. Diners consistently praise the exceptional service, with specific mentions of attentive and knowledgeable staff who enhance the meal. However, some reviewers note that it can be the priciest option in Poland, particularly for drinks, and there are occasional complaints about service speed or lack of vegetarian options.

"Amazing experience, not only was the food incredible, but the service as well, they deserve more than 5 stars! 😃"

"Very Disappointing Experience Despite the Hype

We visited without a reservation, hoping to experience the historic restaurant we had read about.. especially since it’s been visited by royalty. Unfortunately, the visit turned out to be quite disappointing.
As vegetarians, we were dismayed to find there were almost no options available for us. Wanting to at least enjoy the ambiance, we decided to stay just for drinks and desserts. We preferred the upstairs seating area, which felt more like a proper restaurant setting, but the staff insisted it was fully reserved. When we checked upstairs ourselves, it was nearly empty. After some discussion, they allowed us to sit there since we were only staying briefly.
The service, however, was unwelcoming. We started with drinks, but the waiter brought the wrong one. When we pointed this out, his response was rude and dismissive. It felt like we were being treated differently, perhaps because we weren’t ordering full meals - though we would have, had there been vegetarian options.
We were made to feel so uncomfortable that we ended up leaving after just our drinks, skipping the desserts entirely. This visit was a classic case of a place resting on its reputation rather than delivering quality service or hospitality.
Not recommended for vegetarians or for anyone expecting a warm, welcoming dining experience."

"I had the beef tenderloin and it was absolutely delicious. My husband chose the duck breast and he loved it as well. We were both very satisfied with our meals. A special thanks to Caroline, who was incredibly helpful and attentive throughout the service. Her kindness and professionalism truly made our evening even more enjoyable. Thanks🙏🏼🌸"

With its immaculate period furnishings, coffered wood ceilings, ancient tapestries and oil paintings, Wierzynek is a fascinating place to visit during a stay in Kraków for the sheer weight of history that accompanies the food. Taking its origins from 1364, when wealthy merchant Wierzynek entertained the monarchs of Europe on behalf of Polish King Casimir the Great, the restaurant serves regal dishes, such as a delicious cream of crayfish soup or pheasant consommé, followed by duck breast with a gingerbread sauce or saddle of venison with a blackberry essence. Kraków’s dining scene is Poland’s most diverse, and while walk-ins are acceptable for most restaurants, book ahead – particularly if traveling during the busy summer season – if you plan to dine out at any of the following, to name a few: Restauracja Wierzynek (14th-century royal restaurant), Morskie Oko (updated take on regional cuisine), Szara Gęś w Kuchni Restaurant (upscale Polish fare served in a Gothic dining room), Trzy Gęsi Restaurant (fine dining; goose a speciality), Cyrano de Bergerac (atmospheric brick cellar serving fine French fare) or Pod Nosem (Michelin-star, memorable Polish dishes).

Dating to 1364, this was the only upscale restaurant in Kraków during the gray days of socialism and remains one of the city's best-known upscale dining spots, a place where customers (and their dollars) are once again kings. Though still popular, the present state of the food and service makes us cautious. Traditional offerings on the menu include trout with almonds, roast duck with apples, and saddle of deer in juniper sauce.
