Also, a beautiful place for a trip outside Manila is Balay Dako. I haven’t been out much to eat in the newer places but for the more modern Pinoy restaurants we really like Lampara and their fresh take on Pinoy flavors. They’re run by passionate chefs who are such a wonderful addition to the dining scene. Grace Park by Margarita Fores, my wife and I love because of the regional delicacies and unique takes on familiar dishes for Filipinos. Special place by a special person close to our hearts. For more American flavors in the local scene (that supports local product) we always enjoy Wildflour. Always a good meal, breakfast lunch and dinner.

Operating in what was recently the metro’s busiest and perhaps most competitive drinking and dining district, Lampara continued to draw an audience with its inspired neo-Filipino dishes and unique cocktails. Poblacion was among the hardest-hit areas in the dawn of the pandemic, and Lampara was certainly not immune from its consequences. However, as establishments old and new shut their doors, Lampara boldly continued their operations and even launched a weekly meal subscription service called Lite by Lampara, as well as bottled cocktails to enjoy at home.

Homegrown restaurants offering their own take on our local cuisine might be far and many, yet Lampara still stands out with what they call ‘Neo-Filipino.’ And similar to most spots in the Makati Poblacion district, you’ll find it inside a renovated apartment complex. The al fresco dining area is divided into two sections: one enclosed in glass, and the other in completely open air that allows you to enjoy the breeze. Definitely one of the best options for outdoor dining in Manila!

Fairly new in Poblacion but already drawing crowds since its opening, Lampara takes classic Filipino favorites and elevates them using modern cooking techniques. Their take on the lumpia, Rice Cups (P220), come with an assortment of fillings like longganisa, taba ng talangka, and ubod. Try their Chicken (P290)—the best-selling barbecue-chicken dish will remind you of inasal, especially when paired with the green papaya salad that has three different kinds of vinegar.

Lampara is a Neo-Filipino bistro that serves up classic Filipino dishes reimagined in both flavor and form. A hole-in-the-wall restaurant located on the second floor of a renovated apartment complex, Lampara is the perfect place for you and your bae’s monthsary. Why it’s perfect for dates: They have interesting dishes and alcoholic drinks you will both enjoy if you want somewhere dim, romantic, and not as chaotic as a bar or a super popular casual restaurant.

Neo-Filipino cuisine comes alive at Lámpara, a lively destination in the bustling nightflife district. The location is a bit off from the hustle and bustle business district of Makati, however, if you ride taxi or Grabcar service, you’ll reach the place without any problem. Looking at the outside view, the restaurant is undeniably stylish with some accents that make the place even more attractive. The wall has some patterns and blends well with the glass window that makes the entire place look like a decent spot to enjoy some Filipino food!

Poblacion, Makati, is a modern Filipino bistro that offers an intimate and vibrant ambiance. This Neo-Filipino Bistro, created by Chefs RJ Ramos, Alfonse Sotero, and Prince Tan, is known for its innovative approach to Filipino cuisine, making it a unique destination for a romantic dining experience. The restaurant’s interior is bright and welcoming, with mixed-matched tables and chairs and glass windows offering views of the neighborhood.

This neo-Filipino resto is a great spot for romantic dinners, barkada bondings, and even with the family. Located in Poblacion, their indoor dining is filled with beautiful paintings of local artists. While most customers love to dine out in their al-fresco, my personal favorite is dining near the kitchen and dining near the bartender where I get to watch a sneak peak of their busy kitchen and watch the bartenders curate cocktails.

As soon as you enter Lampara, what catches you is the open space marked by high ceilings. It also has a relaxed open veranda to feel the breeze and check what’s happening outside, and a little glass-house nook with a cozy Mod, ’60s-vibe where you can have drinks.
