What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Gypsy Baguio by Chef Waya offers a unique culinary journey with globally inspired dishes and a cozy atmosphere, often praised for its flavorful mains like Indian Butter Chicken and lengua. While some find the food exceptional and appreciate the scenic views, a few diners have noted that certain dishes can be bland or the prices high for the perceived value. The restaurant is noted for its attentive service and commitment to fresh ingredients, making it a memorable spot for many.
"Gypsy is an upscale, high quality restaurant in a classic, well-maintained classic style building in Quezon Hill 2. The food comes from primarily local, high quality ingredients to produce savory, tangy, and delicious recipes. It's an expensive restaurant, but it's worth it. The food is truly art, and bursting with locally found spices cooked in exquisite ways. The owner is apparently associated with the Slow Food Movement, which if you know what that is, tells you a lot. We ordered the smoked duck with greens salad, octopus ceviche, and pompono fish with mixed rice, two San Miguels, and an ube latte. Total was around 2400 pesos including service charge and tax."

"The cake was just okay, but the rest of the food we ordered was delicious. My personal favorite was the tomato soup with grilled cheese which is super satisfying. The staff is also very knowledgeable about the menu. It’s a great spot for those with dietary preferences too, as they have both vegan and vegetarian options available."

"The food seasoning feels like it was intended for older patrons or maybe the health-conscious in mind. I don't eat a lot of salt, but the dishes we ordered were particularly bland. The Roasted Bone Marrow, while rich, needed a bit of salt. The same goes for the Bianca Putanesca, which is supposed to have anchovies but tasted just like pasta with water and sun-dried tomatoes. Also, the julienned vegetables in the Bibimbap were oddly long, as if they were cut lengthwise. While this might have been for aesthetic purposes, it was quite hard to eat the rice and meat with extra-long vegetables poking out of my spoon.
You might enjoy this place if you have dietary restrictions or are cutting back on salt. The restaurant is worth visiting for the experience, but it's likely not a place you'd want to frequent. Be prepared for a long trip, as they are quite far from the city center and traffic is heavy."

A foodie’s guide to Baguio City’s best-kept secrets
While Manila diners may be familiar with Gypsy along Maginhawa Street at the Teacher’s Village in Quezon City, this outlet gains a certain charm from being in the City of Pines. Chef Waya creates soulful dishes with an eclectic range of influences, while also making sure the ingredients shine. Coconuts recommends: Mushroom Arancini and Peruvian Pulpo Ceviche for starters — the arancini had a light crisp on the exterior and a well-seasoned, fluffy interior that will have you ordering more servings, while the ceviche was bright, acidic, and peppery, delivering on a medley of flavors.
