Amoramar doesn't look like much from the street, but step through the door, and you'll discover an oasis of poinciana trees in a restored adobe house. Seafood dominates the menu, with a selection ranging from the traditional pulpo a la parrilla to creative recipes such as atún saltado (tuna strips sautéed with onions and aji peppers), chaufa de quinua (vegetarian stir-fry with quinoa), and canilla de cordero (roast lamb in a mild chili sauce). Arrive and leave by taxi at night.

If the bohemian district of Barranco is already romantic in itself, the AmorAmar restaurant is one of the great options in Lima to go as a couple to celebrate some special occasion. Its menu has a wide variety of dishes, including ceviches, Creole rice dishes such as rice with duck, suckling piglet or some fusion recipes such as quinua chaufa or nikkei tortilla. The charm of the mansion where the restaurant is located and its courtyard are ample reason for us to spend a romantic evening and forget the chaos of the city for a few hours.

The setting was really fun and the food beautifully plated, but none of the dishes we ate at Amor Amar compared to either of our meals at Cala or ámaZ. We were stopping in for a light lunch, so we only ordered two dishes – a ceviche and a warm shrimp salad, along with mini Pisco Sours and a couple afternoon pick-me-up lattes.

Amoramar (the Spanish words for love and sea blended together) is located in the San Isidro neighborhood of Lima. It has been on our list for a while, but San Isidro is a finance and business-oriented neighborhood so we don’t often find ourselves there.
