Reviews Summary
Chicha by Gaston Acurio is a highly regarded restaurant in Cusco, celebrated for its innovative take on traditional Peruvian cuisine and upscale ambiance. Many praise the unique flavors and expertly crafted dishes, particularly the oxtail pasta. However, some diners have noted that service can be slow and inconsistent, and a few found the food to be average for the price.
"Excellent food! Service was slow at times but the waiter was very kind and helpful. We ordered the typical Pisco sour, Guinea starter (never tried and wanted to start with something small, taste similar to pork) oxtail pasta, and trout topped with caviar served with quinoa. For dessert the corn pavlova. Everything was fantastic! The guinea was tender with a savory sauce. The trout was light and fresh, but the oxtail was the star, tender, major flavor. The pasta had a cream sauce. The dessert was unique and light. For those familiar with the cereal Corn Pops, it had a similar taste, very good. We were able to walk in and wait a few minutes for a table but a reservation is recommended."

"We were coming in with high expectations, but unfortunately the restaurant did not live up to them.
We made a reservation at 1:30 for our anniversary, we got there 1:15 and were told to wait until the time, fair. We were not seated until 2pm. A table of 6 who came in after us were seated before us, the hostess was named Daniela. Then we were seated at a table last minute by the area where the waiters go to get silverware, so a lot of movement next to us in a small space. Luckily we were able to ask to move to another table.
The waitress Yuli, was alright in the beggining taking our order, but the food took forever. We ordered 2:05 and the starter, tiradito de trucha didn’t come out until 2:45. Yes, multiple people who came after got their food before us. Once delivered there were no apologies for the wait. The entree took another 20 minutes. We ordered the chaufa cusqueño, which we thought would be more rice than quinoa but we were wrong. It was still good but not what we were expecting. Then we ordered water in a small bottle, and the waitress seemed to make a face at us. We also ordered the desert the chocolate mousse, which was also good.
The food was great, but the service was just very poor.
If you have a special occasion or care about service, I wouldn’t take the risk."

"Chicha was the perfect choice for our first meal in Cusco. Since we had just arrived and were adjusting to the altitude, we were advised to stick to vegetarian food and we were pleasantly surprised at how satisfying and flavorful everything was!
The service was warm and welcoming, and the ambiance was both cozy and elegant ideal for easing into the Cusco experience. Even without trying the meat dishes, we left completely satisfied and already planning to come back before we leave."
