Tantalo was the first rooftop bar in Casco Viejo and it's still one of the best. Calle 8 San Felipe, Casa Neuman, Local 1. Casco Viejo is quite compact so you really don't need a map - just admire all the architecture (colonial), cafe-hop your way around the old streets and yearn longingly for the balconies that some of the local's have access to in their homes (including Panama's president, whose Palace of the Herons residence can be found here).

Tantalo Kitchen is located on the ground floor of the building on the corner of Avenida B and Calle 8. Where Chef Pierre rustles up a menu of plates to share that have influences from around the world. With dishes such as the Tia Michelle's Prawns (not tiny) and our take on Pad Thai through to a wannabe risotto and the very popular Tantalo Parrillada with a selection of different meats you are sure to find something you will desire.

Tántalo Kitchen – I love a place with ambiance as well as good food, and Tantalo’s got it. The restaurant often hosts art exhibits in addition to the already-edgy decor, so there’s plenty to please the eyes as well as the stomach. Items border on pricey for the budget-conscious traveler ($6-10 per plate) but their lunch menu offers many items at half price.

Tantalo Roofbar stands out with its vibrant atmosphere and expansive city views. Located in the historic Casco Viejo district, it blends traditional Panamanian flavors with contemporary twists. The rooftop setting is ideal for enjoying an evening of tapas and cocktails while watching the sunset over the picturesque cityscape.

After brunch I visited the Panama Canal and did a walking tour (in the rain). The weather was perfect the whole time and of course it rained the day I finally took the time to explore Casco Viego. The tour guide, Alex, provided umbrellas, which was nice, but the experience was still subpar due to the weather.

Tantalo Kitchen—$$—This kitchen is all things to all people. It provides one of the best breakfast menus in Panama, along with fabulous lunch options and then pausing into great dinner delights. Chef Pierre De Janon has put together an amazing offering highlighting an upscale version of Panamanian dishes.

Tantalo had my favorite rooftop bar because they had this separate deck you could walk up to be even higher. It gave breathtaking evening views of the city and this is definitely the bar to go to if you want to dance.

Aside from being famous for their cocktails, Tantalo’s food menu is something you wouldn’t want to miss. You can have a nice meal on their lower floor and then go to the rooftop and order your favorite drink.
