Start your day at one of Tromsø’s cosy cafes such as local favorite Kaffebønna (they have four outposts in the city, so there’s definitely one near you), where you can get a specialty brew like V60 while munching on a fresh-from-the-oven baguette. Or, if you’re in a hurry to get going, get your coffee to-go along with a delicious cookie from Smørtorget, a cute cafe with a retro vibe that also serves delicious pastries and oatmeal with organic nuts and fresh berries.

Being a fan of dark bread, Norwegian supermarket bread just doesn’t do it for me – it’s all sugary and white and tasteless. So naturally, when I discovered that Kaffebønna sells decent bread, I immediately got their coupon card and they had me as their regular customer all throughout my time in the city. Besides awesome bread, Kaffebønna also serves coffee and pastries, and they have quite a big focus on organic and fresh products.

Welcome to Kaffebønna, where the beans are roasted with love and served with a side of quirky charm in Tromsø!. Situated in the heart of the city, this cozy café is like a warm hug for your taste buds. As you step in, prepare yourself for a caffeine-fueled adventure that will leave you feeling more awake than a polar bear on a caffeine frenzy (not scientifically proven, but we're pretty sure it's true!).

This adorable coffee shop has two locations in Tromsø, both equally easy on the eyes and with coffee that will shy the inevitable shivers away (this is the Arctic, after all). Don’t fight your inner voice that begs you to get their mouth-watering sweets; Kaffebønna also owns a bakery downtown where they do everything themselves in the utmost Norwegian tradition.

With two locations in the city, both cafes are chic with all the trimmings of a stylish third-wave coffee shop. Expect to see industrial lighting, beautifully displayed bread loaves and a pegboard letter sign with clever, inspirational or pun-filled sayings. The espresso was great, and you can get drinks to go if you're in a hurry.

If I were to pick a Tromsø coffee shop simply based on coffee alone, I would choose Kaffebønna. It is a small Tromsø chain, but they have everything I want in a cafe – a cozy atmosphere, affordable coffee, and bread. They have three locations in the city center – Stortorget 3, Strandtorget 1, and Kirkegata 1 (new).

For excellent specialty coffee with a view, pop into Kaffebonna for a cup of their best Norwegian coffee, with a pastry from their own bakery. Alternatively, for a more hoppy break, get a pint of beer brewed under the northern lights at Mack – whose brewpub was opened in 1928 making it Tromso’s oldest pub.

While the Kaffebønna chain will help you meet your daily caffeine needs, Risø offers food and coffee with an extra touch. Besides lunch dishes, including sandwiches and soups, they have what may be the city's best cinnamon rolls. Make sure to arrive early as they sell out quickly!

Later in the evening, when the cold winds got a little too chilly to bear, I stopped by Kaffebonna for a cup of hot chocolate. It is another popular local cafe in the middle of the city, and they also serve good coffee and cakes.

If you want to taste really good coffee, head to Kaffebønna. There are several Kaffebønna cafes in Tromsø, which, in addition to quality coffee, serve cakes, panini, buns, pastries and fresh bread from their own artisan bakery.

There are so many good places for coffee here, as well as the two listed, you can enjoy delicious sweets in a spacious atmosphere at Kaffebønna. Or Smortorget – a cool cafe that triples up as a vintage shop and artist studio.

It is rumoured, that the best coffee - whether espresso or cappuccino - will be found at Kaffebönna. In addition, you will also find fine delicacies on offer. Breads and small pastries are made in the café.

Kaffebonna is a chain of cafes with some units spread around the city, with incredible bread and sweets!. We stopped there a few times to grab a snack or just have a hot chocolate.

If you just want to have a drink, you can enjoy an outdoor beer at Skarven, Skirri or Vervet, while the city’s best coffee is brewed at Kaffebønna at Strandtorget and Stortorget.

We recommend you Risø mat og Kaffebar, Kaffebønna, Koseverden & Koselig Cafe, Selfie Konditori, FINT Kafe, or Cafe Sann, but there are many other nice ones!
