Reviews Summary

Bardus Bistro is highly praised for its unique fusion of Northern Norwegian ingredients with Mediterranean flair, with many guests highlighting the exceptional quality and presentation of dishes like reindeer and cod. The cozy and convivial atmosphere, often described as library-like, adds to the positive dining experience, though some note that tables can be a bit small. Service is consistently described as friendly and excellent, making it a favorite spot for locals and tourists alike.

"The place is awesome. People from all ages. We stopped there for an Irish Coffee and a cider. Service was quick and effective. Everyone with a smile on their faces and welcoming.
The bar (we didn't eat) looks good and well designed.
Lovely place. Lovely location. Just take into consideration - it is pricey!"

Guy Golan

"Great find in Tromso! My Initial thoughtsof this place was that it didn't have a very varied menu. But that didn't matter. I had the duck starter with demi glaze, and the sauce was so go, and went perfectly with the duck and salad, thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it.

Had the cod for mains and again everything on the plate just went so well, the corn espuma sauce was delicious with the fish...not sure the salsa really belonges there, but it didn't take anything away from the dish, so will just accept it there. Also the cod on its own was also tasty...unlike fish in other places that just taste bland without the other bits. The reindeer dish my partner had was also good.

The chocolate fondant was also very nice.

I had the aperol spritz cocktail which in most places is watered down with tonic, but not here, was just the aperol and sparkling wine and was well worthit. All in all was a really good experience and would recommend them. They also have a bar, which we didn't try, but could be nice to go for an after dinner drink.

Only downside is, the tables were quite small! But that contributes to a cosy vibe...Still slightly bigger tables would be appreciated."

"The lady boss is super nice! They switch up the menu every two months, so don’t go by the food pics on Google Maps when you order – they won’t match. Kinda bummer the fish soup doesn’t come with bread, though.
Highly recommend the local cake! It’s really unique – there’s this foam made with some special plant and berries, plus a base that’s like cookie crumbs. Super distinct, totally worth a try."

Tromso's Top 10 Restaurants, Norwegian Eats And Fine Dining

Three parts earthy Norwegian fisherman’s haunt, one part rustic Greek taverna, the folk at the Bardus Bistro do well to fuse local Nordic staples, such as cod and North Sea fish, with a twist of Mediterranean culinary flair. That said, the cooking philosophy here is simple through-and-through, deferring at every stage to the innate flavors of all the produce used. Consequently, patrons can expect curious combinations such as crispy cod tongue with French remoulade, ox cheeks dressed in cherry tomatoes, and halibut with fennel and mango.

Eating Like the Locals in Tromsø, Norway

Our first stop for dinner was Bardus Bistro (Cora Sandelsgate 4), an intimate restaurant of eccentric angles and private corners. Our table was surrounded by stocked bookshelves that gave me the feeling I was doing the forbidden: eating in the library. Bardus specializes in local meats and fish and my succulent reindeer steak with red lingonberries, green Brussels sprouts and red wine sauce on a bed of creamed Mandel potatoes looked like Christmas on a plate – until I realized I was eating Rudolph.
