From the street, the austere exterior gave little away, its simplicity almost daring us to underestimate what lay within. But stepping through those doors? It was like entering another world—one of hand-painted ceilings, rich plasterwork, and a grandeur that seemed to have been plucked from another era. The Cleopatra Room, where we dined, was particularly mesmerizing, her regal gaze both alluring and imperious, watching over our indulgence with an expression that might have been judgment… or approval.

The meal itself was a symphony of surprise, each course revealing unexpected combinations that somehow felt both daring and inevitable. Ingredients that had no business being on the same plate danced together in perfect balance, showcasing the kitchen's playfulness and precision.

And the wine pairing? Not just recommended—essential. Each pour was a revelation, transforming good dishes into extraordinary ones, adding layers of complexity that teased and delighted the palate.

But perhaps the real magic of Statholdergaarden lay in the service—gracious, intuitive, and effortlessly refined. The team anticipated our every need, guiding us through the experience with the kind of hospitality that turns a meal into a memory.

It was our last night in Oslo, and we couldn’t have asked for a more fitting farewell—a place that reminded us that things are not always as they seem. Understated on the outside, unforgettable on the inside—Statholdergaarden is a hidden treasure in the heart of the city."

The homemade sourdough bread was amazing and need to be careful not to eat too much before appetizers and main dishes. "Dining at Statholdergaarden on February 26 was a beautiful and thoughtful journey through Nordic flavors, presented with elegance and precision. I had the full tasting menu, which unfolded over the course of about two hours — a perfectly paced experience that never felt rushed.

The house bread was simply outstanding — made with a sourdough starter they’ve been feeding for seven years! The first amuse-bouche looked stunning, though the flavor was more subtle. The morel course had layers of earthy complexity — maybe a bit too complex for my taste, but still interesting. The winter cod was a highlight: perfectly cooked, with a sauce that reminded me of ginger and orange — bright and deeply flavorful. A small extra sorbet followed as a refreshing intermezzo.

The veal, served as the main, was tasty but a bit heavy, and I would’ve appreciated a more generous side to balance the dish. The cheese course truly impressed — with combinations like honey and basil, an aged Italian balsamic-like liqueur, and sherry-caramelized raisins soaked in honey. Each pairing was clever, sweet, and memorable.

Dessert brought a refreshing end, and the petit fours were delicate and satisfying.
