"A nice bakery located on the main road across the lake. The bakery is huge with a wide variety of savory pies, donuts, and cream buns. The best part is everything is super fresh as the baking is being done on site. The pricing of items however is a little steep, especially coffee was pricier than other places around the area. The pies are self service where tongs and bags are provided, however for the cream buns and donuts you need assistance from staff. There was only one lady managing the bakery when we visited hence she was pretty occupied yet managed to serve orders pretty fast. A nice stop for baked items, coffee can be found cheaper in the area."

"The pies are must haves for people who have never had a New Zealand style pie. Doughbin makes their pies with a flaky top which makes the pies just sublime. There are a dozen or so different fillings offered from the quintessential mince and gravy to the exotic potbelly with figs which I highly recommend.

The place only has two two person tables inside. You would expect to buy your pies and take them elsewhere to eat. Fortunately the lake is right across the street and there are thus lots of picnic spots available.

Other than the pies, they also make pastries and coffee. The coffee is decent. I didn't try the pastries. The staff is helpful and cheerful."

"I honestly don’t know how this bakery won awards for their pies.

The pepper steak pie had no pepper flavour at all, the gravy was bland and forgettable.
The mince savoury was mostly hollow inside, with barely any mince, just a thin layer at the bottom and the rest being empty space under the pastry (see photo).
The lemon meringue tart was a giant mound of meringue with only a thin smear of lemon that didn’t even reach the pastry edge, far from the tangy lemon hit you’d expect.

Photos say it all: thin fillings, overinflated presentation, underwhelming flavour.
Very disappointing and definitely not worth the hype."
