Reviews Summary

The Bunker offers an intimate and romantic dining experience with a strong focus on New Zealand cuisine and a cozy fireside ambiance. While many praise the exquisite tasting menus, attentive service, and inventive cocktails, some find the pricing steep and have noted occasional issues with service formality or specific dish executions. It's a highly recommended spot for special occasions seeking a unique and memorable night out.

"If you’re looking for the perfect date night then this is the place. Very cosy intimate decor and ambience with a big open fireplace. Service was outstanding. We had the 8 course tasting menu and every dish was a standout. Great cocktails and wine list. We had an amazing experience here and highly recommend, if you’re in Queenstown looking for that special night out. This is the one!"

"This restaurant has been on my list for a long time and I finally got to try it with my boyfriend for our anniversary. The setting was lovely with a fireplace and a great atmosphere. Service was generally fine, though it felt a little distant and formal at times.
We chose the wine pairing with the menu, but I was told I had to finish my wine before they would serve the next course, which made the experience feel a bit rushed.
The food itself was thoughtful and well-executed—flavours matched the price point. However, one dish contained a cherry pit still inside and unfortunately, my boyfriend bit down on it. It caused him noticeable pain and he was fortunate that it didn’t result in any damage to his teeth. We flagged this to the waiter, who just mentioned that it “sometimes happens.” That response was quite disappointing. For a fine dining restaurant, extra care should be taken to remove such hazards, or at the very least, a warning should be given to diners.
We weren’t looking for any compensation, we had already used a First Table discount and we do think this is something worth pointing out, as it could be dangerous and could easily be avoided. We hope the team takes this feedback onboard."

"One of the rare instances where I found the entree and main to be better than the appetisers. The kingfish crudo was fresh and refreshing with the sauce (with nashi pear, sesame oil and shiso). I got the cod as the main dish and it was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS - the fish was creamy, buttery and flavourful from the seaweed, but also not too fishy.
The appetisers were kind of meh, the eel churro wasn’t too crispy and almost on the wetter side? The beef tartare was ok.
The lemon sorbet was refreshing. But the pumpkin dessert was novel but odd, especially the candied pumpkin had a weird texture.
The service was really good and had a nice fireplace next to our table (made my hair smell smokey after though)"

Expect a warm reception when you push open the beaten-up wooden door that leads to this dinky restaurant and bar, which boasts a cosy fireplace and rooftop deck. Before bunkering down in the late-night lounge, enjoy a spiced duck consommé with Peking duck wontons and a seared back strap and braised shoulder of Otago alpine merino with noisette potatoes, caramelised carrot puree and thyme jus. When dinner is done, head upstairs for house-made hot mulled wine and cheese fondue before enjoying some Hanky Panky (Beefeater 24, Dolin Rouge) and cosying up with a Millionaire (Sailor Jerry's Spiced Rum, Sloe Gin, Apricot Liqueur, Lime Juice and Egg White).

The Bunker might sound casual and grungy, but the needle swings towards refined and decadent, so maybe don’t come in your ski boots. Split over two levels, the cocktail lounge upstairs is intimate and oozes ambience, while the downstairs restaurant is warm and cosy. The dinner menu is big on red meat and game (with a black garlic and horopito gnocchi option for vegetarians) and cocktails range from quirky seasonal creations such as Citrus Mistress (with dehydrated blood orange cognac) to sophisticated classics like Mai Tai, Singapore Sling and Hemingway Daiquiri.
