Buster Greens has quickly established itself as a favourite among locals and visitors alike, known for its hearty meals that don't compromise on flavour. Whether you’re in the mood for the "Buster Berg" topped with fried chicken, in-house burger sauce, walnut dukkha and sandwiched in a melt-in-your-mouth milk bun, or the classic benedict with a spin with their “Pork Belly Benedict” with smoked chilli buffalo sauce and apple cider hollandaise, their philosophy of nourishing, mouth-watering food is resonant in every dish. For those on a New Zealand road trip in a campervan, the Filleul Street Car Park offers ample space and is just a short walk away, making it an ideal spot to park and enjoy a leisurely brunch or lunch at Buster Greens.

Buster Greens — Cafe is located on Dunedin’s main drag George Street, just a short walk from the Octagon, and bills itself as a “bright and modern” café.” It has an extensive menu that features many Kiwi classics as well as a variety of other fare, with most selections being available all day. Which is something breakfast lovers will appreciate; you could even have the Red Chilli Scrambled Eggs or the Buster’s Breakfast (sausage, pork belly, poached eggs, mushrooms with hollandaise, sourdough bread) for dinner if you so well please. Buster Greens is a great place to have lunch as well, with such menu selections as Pork Belly Benedict and (for something lighter) Mediterranean Grilled Vege.

With a focus on raw ingredients and superfoods, Buster Greens is one of Dunedin’s bright and welcoming cafes on George Street, serving up delicious breakfast, brunch and lunch. Their fried chicken benedict will get your taste buds humming, and sweet tooths will love the brioche french toast with fruit, chocolate and espresso cream. Buster Greens is the ideal spot to meet for a coffee in the sun, or a hearty and wholesome brunch with good company.

However, their take on an eggs benedict was not overly suitable in meeting my set criteria. The dish included only 1 egg, and the amount of hollandaise was considerably lacking in terms of the egg-to-sauce ratio. It accompanied a piece of Southern fried chicken amongst other elements (including salad greens and pickle slices), which, while delicious, was a little too artistically removed from the classic eggs benedict.

More than a few of Buster Greens' customers crouch down upon entering to check out the cafe's array of raw and plant-based baking. The daily selection could include their beetroot and avocado slice, while organic and vegan ingredients also underpin Buster Greens' broader menu. Innovative spins on traditional lunch dishes include a shawarma flatbread topped with slow-roasted lamb, lemon hummus and harissa labneh.

Constantly humming with people, Buster Greens serves up some refreshing new takes on old classics such as the fried chicken eggs benny and other tasty gems – there’s lovely refreshing juice combos, hearty smoothies (think peanut butter, oat milk, dates, banana and cinnamon) and great, toasty coffee by Supreme. Sadly that is all I had time /space for this trip. Very popular spot – totally buzzing.

Life is all about balance and Buster Greens literally has the balance right. I prefer a more plant-based selection and my husband is the opposite, and so here we can get both options. My husband always gets the most incredible fried chicken bene with housemate crumpets and I swing between the smoothie bowls or freedom loaf and avo.

Despite being a student favourite, Buster Greens really caters for every kind of foodie. Whether you’re into a big breakfast or smoothie bowl, flavour is at the forefront here. Its leafy interior makes it popular on Instagram and its little-known downstairs area means it can seat more people than you might think at first glance.

A fresh café located a few minutes away from the University of Otago, Buster Greens can easily transport you to San Francisco with its modern, well-lit interior with lots of flora. Enjoy a wide selection of food options. Their bacon and egg brioche is delicious!

When Buster Greens says they’ve got something for everyone, they mean it, but not in the ‘we have a gigantic menu’ kind of way. Here it’s all about balance. The menu features dishes that satisfy bigggg appetites and the most conscious consumers all at once.

Buster Greens hadn’t been open longer than a few months by the time I visited. But to any tourist, it would appear as a well-established neighbourhood favourite. We arrived at 1pm on a Friday and it was heaving.

Don’t miss breakfast at Buster Greens or Side-On, great coffee at Laneway, the Swan and The Kitchen Table, plus high-quality dining at the likes of No.7 Balmac, Two Chefs Bistro, Tītī, Moietyand Bacchus.
