"Genuinely one of the best meals I have ever had. Bubbly and energetic atmosphere, wonderful & attentive staff who make you feel cared for but not overbearing. Stunning drinks menu, food came out at a good pace. Flavors were unbelievable, food was so fresh and made with love. I will be coming back here every time I visit auckland!"

"Gemmayaze Street never fails to impress. The Hummus is the best I've ever had, cocktails are delicious, the food is so consistently great, and the atmosphere is amazing too. Haven't had a bad or even mediocre dish there so far, and the service is outstanding. Such a great spot if you want a really great meal."

"⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Now I understand why Gemmayze Street was voted No.1 — this place is outstanding! The chicken shish is hands down the best I’ve ever had: juicy, full of flavour, and perfectly cooked. The saffron rice with raisin, walnut, and a touch of sour creamy sauce is absolutely delicious — a perfect balance of sweet, nutty, and creamy.
The hummus is also a standout. It has a flavour that reminds me of Sichuan chili, but without the heat — super unique and addictive. The lamb was decent, pretty standard compared to everything else. I also tried their new dessert — it was okay, just not quite my taste.
Overall, a fantastic experience and a must-try if you’re in the area!"

The best restaurants in Auckland for special occasions
Occupying the far end of Auckland’s iconic St Kevin’s arcade, eating at Gemmayze Street is an experience from the minute you set eyes on the fit-out. With the heaters blazing and the Sky Tower illuminated through the big bay window, there are few more charming Auckland locations in the evening than St Kevins Arcade. While Samir Allen’s slow-braised lamb shoulder and charred octopus dishes are spoken of highly around town, his treatment of vegetables is worthy of applause too. With nine of the mezze dishes being vegetarian, you can happily create your own vege feast, starting with the city’s silkiest hummus; smoky eggplant baba ghanouj; and golden-green falafel, topped with vivid pink pickles.
The Six Best Middle Eastern Restaurants in Auckland
After a trip to Lebanon in 2014 as well as a stint under Ben Bayly at the grove Dunedin born Samir Allen opened Gemmayze Street (named for the main dining street in Beirut) in the newly refurbished St Kevin's Arcade. His family emigrated from Lebanon to New Zealand over a century ago, but the cuisine of his ancestors clearly still comes naturally to him. The venue is minimalist and modern with distinct middle eastern influences from the hand-hammered copper paneling on the bar to the ornate, decorative tiling.
