What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Amano is celebrated for its delicious Italian-inspired cuisine, with a particular emphasis on fresh, high-quality ingredients and expertly made pasta. The chic yet warm ambiance of the reclaimed warehouse space, coupled with its waterfront location, creates a memorable dining experience. While many praise the food and atmosphere, some reviews mention inconsistent or poor service.
"I had such a lovely experience here! The staff were incredibly attentive and made sure everything was tailored to my needs — even kindly removing the chili from my dish since I’m currently pregnant, which I really appreciated.
The atmosphere was warm and intimate — perfect for a date night. And the food? Outstanding! The monkfish was cooked to absolute perfection: crispy on the outside, tender and flavorful inside. I’ll definitely be coming back. Highly recommend!"

"Amano is one of those places where the reputation is completely deserved. The atmosphere is chic yet warm, with that perfect mix of buzz and comfort.
We began with their bread and fish cream—a deceptively simple starter that really shows the kitchen’s finesse: the bread was rustic and full of flavor, and the fish cream was smooth, delicate, and deeply satisfying. The beetroot salad followed, beautifully presented and layered with earthy sweetness, citrus brightness, and crunch.
For the main, the lamb dish was excellent: tender, full of flavor, and paired with accompaniments that lifted it beyond a classic preparation.
To finish, the polenta pie was a revelation—light yet rich, moist, and perfectly balanced with fruit and a touch of freshness. Easily one of the best desserts I’ve had in a while.
Service was attentive without being intrusive, and while pricing is on the higher end, the quality, execution, and overall experience make it worth every dollar.
In short: Amano delivers on all fronts—fresh, seasonal ingredients, beautifully executed dishes, and an atmosphere that makes dining feel truly special."

The Best Brunch Spots In Auckland New Zealand
C’mon, what’s not to love about this lovely little Australian-Italian all-day cafe and bistro?. You walk in and the layout hits you like a sack of gnocchi, right in the eyeballs. It’s somehow modern and yet rustic too.
A local’s guide to Auckland, New Zealand
At the heart of Britomart, the waterfront area of downtown Auckland, Italian restaurant Amano serves lunch with a view: businesspeople at the bar attempting to impress, well-dressed diners lunching at leisure in the window, staff in the open kitchen preparing the evening service from scratch, raviolo by raviolo. The best part, though, is Amano’s adjoining bakery, where you can pick up a pastry, piadina or pizza slice to go, plus loaves of house sourdough. Once a week, usually Fridays, the pastry cabinet includes Auckland’s best custard slice, a corner-bakery staple.

Nothing quite rings in the silly season like an expertly stacked trifle — and this one is a layer above the rest. Amano’s tiramisu trifle features layers of coffee-soaked chocolate sponge, mascarpone mousse, coffee mousse and cocoa nib chocolate shards and is topped with whipped mascarpone and Dutch cocoa to finish. Vegetarian restaurants in Auckland
True to their Italian ethos of fresh, seasonal and simple cuisine, the vegetarian offerings at Amano are made using carefully sourced produce, resulting in maximum flavour. For your protein hit, start with something from the dairy section of the menu, where light, creamy cheeses – mozzarella, burrata and stracciatella – are paired with herbs, shaved vegetables, nuts and lashings of fine olive oil. Amano’s pastas are handmade that day and the selection always includes a handful of vegetarian options.

A Food Lover's City Guide to Auckland, New Zealand
I love the rustic exposed beams of the lofty rennovated warehouse space which houses Amano, and particularly appreciated the use of oversized urns filled with fresh flowers which naturally softened the raw, slightly industrial energy of the building. Conviviality is instantly noticeable upon stepping into the busy eatery and you can’t help but smile at the promise of a good time. It’s upbeat yet relaxed, the drinks are flowing and diners chat between tables.
Denizen’s definitive guide to the best hot cross buns in Auckland
Amano bakery’s hot cross buns are generously-sized and well-risen, and the sourdough lends them a dark, almost brown bread quality. They are perfect for those who love a fairly dense bun with a generous amount of fruit, and are not overly sweet or glazed, instead drawing a wholesome sweetness from the raisins and citrus peel. Because of their sturdy texture, we love these buns toasted with (of course) a hearty spreading of salted butter.
