Reviews Summary

El Morocco Club is lauded for its exceptional food, romantic ambiance, and attentive service, particularly its modern take on Moroccan and Mediterranean cuisine. The speakeasy downstairs is a major draw for its unique charm. While most reviews are overwhelmingly positive, occasional mentions of slow service or issues with table allocation have been noted.

"The candied lamb and couscous and John Dory fish were both excellent, couscous was great, atmosphere very romantic, and service attentive but a tad slow sometimes. And a wonderful romantic time!"

Zarek Peris

"I forgot to review this spot- went here last summer. The food was wonderful, and offers a modern take on traditional Moroccan cuisine. The flavours and presentation were sublime. A calming atmosphere and beautiful lighting. The service was great as well."

Chehrazad C

"El Morocco club is an upscale venue in Tangier, easily located. You can either have a drink under the trees, on the main façade of the establishment, or book a table in the restaurant for lunch or dinner, or book a place at the piano bar. There are, therefore, three ways to appreciate this place. It has a menu of excellent alcoholic beverages, from wines, cocktails, beers and a selected dishes. The presentation of the dishes is beautiful, and they are very well served. I drank a glass of white wine and ordered a saffron risotto with prawns. My God, it was the best risotto I've eaten in my life! The staff are very kind, and at the end I was awarded a spectacular chocolate truffle. I highly recommend this place, and I add that it is necessary to make a reservation. Success to you all ✨"

Restaurants in Tangier and the Mediterranean

In 1931, an American architect renovated a kasbah mansion and turned it into El Morocco Club. Today it's three venues in one: a sophisticated restaurant serving a fusion of Mediterranean and Moroccan cuisine, a pretty café terrace, and a seductively lit piano bar. The restaurant menu features fare such as foie gras, seafood couscous, and lemon meringue pie.

The inside guide to Tangier, Morocco's buzzy port city

The surrounding jumble of whitewashed houses hides a smattering of art galleries, murals and places to eat, including El Morocco Club, one of the best restaurants in town. You half expect to glimpse Humphrey Bogart in a white dinner jacket as you enter the chic, neo-Moorish lounge of El Morocco Club, a fetching cafe-restaurant-bar. Why the Moroccan Riviera is the secret hotspot to visit this winter

In a funky building designed by 20th-century American architect (and long-time Tangier resident) Stuart Church, this difficult-to-find club in the medina’s throbbing heart is a time warp. Lounge on red-leather-upholstered club chairs beneath chandelier-lit ceilings as you chow down on chef Chef Noureddine Zaouja’s playful blend of French and Moroccan cuisine: melting slab of foie gras served on a bed of hair-slender rhazat al khadi pastry; crispy calamari chunks swimming in a red pepper coulis, or lamb slow-cooked until it feather tender served on a bed of couscous dotted with fresh dates – whilst revelling in that lost-in-the-past ambience. The best places to eat in Tangier

The El Morocco Club is a kasbah landmark with a fearsomely popular speakeasy downstairs and a moody red-and-black restaurant upstairs designed as a homage to the legendary New York jazz club of the same name. It’s the brainchild of Vincent Coppée and Oscar Badji, transplants from Belgium and Senegal who arrived a decade ago and never left. Everyone comes here to sit beneath the painted wooden ceilings and pick and mix from the French-Moroccan menu which features plump Dakhla oysters, Moroccan foie gras, exquisite ceviche and tuna tartare, as well as seafood couscous and fillet steaks with bearnaise.
