Staff here are friendly and accommodating, so don’t be afraid to let them know if you have any kind of dietary requirements, as they are always happy to help.

Probably the medina’s buzziest dining venue, Nomad’s towering rooftop is in constant high demand, so reserve ahead if you want to be sure of a seat at sunset. The décor is playful and stylish, with colourful woollen cushions and carpets nodding to the building’s previous life as a carpet shop. The menu has a Medi-Moroccan slant, with highlights including the likes of cumin-slathered calamari from Agadir, organic chicken marinated in sweet harissa and crunchy cauliflower and fennel salad.

For dinner, ascend the stairs to the terraces at Nomad, just north of the medina. Its cool soundtrack, fairy-lights and woollen Moroccan capes for chilly nights are a good accompaniment to the inventive Moroccan menu featuring dishes such as fried Agadir calamari and spiced beef-and-lamb burgers with smoked aubergine.

During nighttime the light beamed edges of the rooftop and its lit lanterns under the open sky have an incredibly romantic feel to it. Reservations do come in handy as this place draws the crowd, especially during high season.

All your favourites like tagine and cous cous are on there alongside other North African dishes, and an experimental ice cream and sorbet menu will have you salivating. We had the courgette and feta fritters and the Tunisian brik to start and a mix of gorgeous, succulent tagines and kebabs for main.

Our favourite rooftop bars for mint tea and refreshments include Cafe des Epices and Nomad in the spice market square, plus Cafe de France and Le Grand Balcon du Cafe Glacier in Jemaa el Fna, and the rooftop cafe in Le Jardin Secret. A pot of mint tea is generally pretty cheap, costing around 10 Dirhams (80 pence / 0.90 cents EU / 1 USD), and chilled soft drinks are also usually available – truly a ‘funky, cold medina’!

Owner Kamal Laftimi is one of Marrakech's most creative entrepreneurs and owns some of the best restaurants in Marrakech in addition to Nomad including Le Jardin, La Famille, Café des Epices. Nomad is right in the heart of Souk Semmarine and like the others, it’s trendy but unpretentious and booking (online is best) is essential. You’ll find little signposts for it throughout the souks, follow them and you’ll arrive.

You might have to be a nomad in order to find this gem, happily wandering down the narrow streets you might not expect to take you there. Once you arrive a slim staircase leads you through stylish indoor seating to a two-tier terrace with wonderful views. The menu includes quite a few options to please your palate with a unique, modern Moroccan twist.

There is a lot of hype about Nomad, and it is one of the more popular restaurants to visit while in Marrakech. It is also located in Place des Espices, and if you do decide to visit, you will definitely need to make a booking. I really hate to say it, but this wasn’t my favourite place for foo,d which really surprised me considering how busy it gets.
