This elegant colonial house on the south side of the main square specializes in hearty Yucatecan cuisine, with such menu highlights as pollo X'catik (chicken baked in butter cream) and lomitos de Valladolid (cubed pork loin in a tomato-chile sauce). If you're not feeling quite so adventurous, you can choose from mar y tierra (meaning, basically, surf and turf) options. The small front dining room is stylish, but we recommend snagging a table in the leafy back courtyard—it's perfect for lunch on a hot afternoon.

Set in a lush tropical garden, watched over by flitting birds and a giant facsimile Olmec head sculpture, Atrio offers a mixed menu of local and international food and long, refreshing juices and cocktails. Beef or pork cochinita pibil (with shredded meat, beans and chili) come with generously stuffed baskets of corn tortilla. There are also steaks and pasta for international tastes, and if you’re here early, breakfasts are big enough to keep you going for most of the day.

For the ideal ending to any date night in Valladolid, you’ll want to visit El Atrio del Mayab, in the city plaza. The outdoor seating area at the back of El Atrio is idyllic, with soothing fountains and ivy-covered rock walls reminiscent of a secret garden. The setting is calm and romantic, and is a place to truly savor your experience in Valladolid, and is one of the most romantic in the city.

Although this restaurant does target tourists, it was still authentic food with a peaceful courtyard which created the most lovely atmosphere (again I felt like I was in a movie or dream!). Right next to Iglesia de San Servacio, El Atrio was so delicious, we ate there twice – for breakfast and another day for dinner. Although both meals were delicious, I especially recommend breakfast.

El Atrio del Mayab is another top choice that I return to over and over. The restaurant specializes in combining traditional Mayan cuisine flavors with modern techniques, resulting in a flavorful dining experience set in a relaxing and eclectically designed courtyard. Their cochinita pibil is a must-try, and the cocktails are fantastic!

Om de variatie erin te houden bezochten we dit restaurant voor het diner. Het restaurant bevindt zich aan het centrale plein naast het prachtige ‘Tempo de San Servacio’.

To the left of the cathedral, on the plaza, you will find el Atrio del Mayab.At first it looks like a tourist hotspot but during my visit, there were only locals. If you walk all the way to the back you reach an idyllic courtyard overlooking the cathedral. Mexican cuisine takes center stage here and the dishes are just delicious.

El Atrio del Mayab: El Atrio del Mayab, near the historic Convento de San Bernardino de Siena, provides a picturesque spot for breakfast. It serves modern takes on traditional Yucatecan dishes. Don’t miss the “Huevos Motuleños,” featuring eggs on tortillas with black beans, ham, peas, plantains, tomato sauce, and cheese.

You can find this unassuming charmer next door to the San Servicio church. The backyard at El Atrio del Mayab is relaxing and cozy and the decorative lights make it especially romantic at night. Grab a bite to eat under the stars and try their selection of one-of-a-kind margaritas.

The reason we like this restaurant is because the nice garden in the back, handmade tortillas, and good value for breakfast. El Atrio is almost right next to the cathedral on the main plaza. Be sure to walk to the back to the garden for best atmosphere.

El Atrio del Mayab – A great quality, more upscale Mayan fusion restaurant with a couple of pages worth of veggie options, most of which can be made vegan. The tacos and tostadas are heavenly. A great option to finish off a perfect day in Valladolid.

El Atrio is a crowd-pleaser with its rich Mexican and Italian dishes. The pasta dishes are ginormous. We dined here for a nice dinner in the center of town right next to the Iglesia de San Servacio (Catholic Church).

I also recommend El Mesón del Marqués and Restaurante El Atrio del Mayab – both restaurants serve amazing traditional Mexican and Yucatecan food and both have outdoor seating in a garden or a lovely courtyard.

Yerbabuena del Sisal is a nice restaurant with a terrace located in front of the former convent of San Bernardino de Siena, which serves Mexican and international food prepared with organic ingredients

Fancy going to local bars with batwing doors and an authentic local atmosphere?. Check out Bar El Yuktko on Calle 46 (they serve local snacks with your drinks) and La Joyita Cantina on Calle 41.

El Atrio del Mayab – right in the main square, it’s quite popular with tourists, but it’s a solid choice to indulge in authentic Mayan tastes.

Also El Atrio del Mayab, right in the central square is a great choice. Try the local dish “queso relleno” (stuffed cheese).
