"The first thing to notice is the incredible art on the walls and then the cozy furniture. After we got our food we thought it wasn’t going to be enough (coming from an American of course) but the bread was so hearty and whole that we almost couldn’t finish it. I love how they make everything from scratch and most of it comes directly from their farm. The bread made from Ramon seeds was probably the best I’ve ever eaten. The tahini latte was very different from anything I have tried, a tiny bit of saltiness that I wasn’t expecting, but with some of their honey it was absolutely divine. My friend had the pancakes and said they were so good he couldn’t believe they were healthy. I am sad I didn’t go until my last day in Valladolid because I already want to taste the amazing bread again"

"I’m from Melbourne, Australia and we have a pretty strong cafe culture - this place was so unbelievably good I almost can’t explain. We had the tacos and the tortilla. Both were exceptional. So fresh. So full of delicious vegetables. The Halva latte was amazing. I’ve never come across sesame milk before and it was like an absolute revelation. My friend had a mango and banana smoothie which was also amazing. Service top notch. Gorgeous decor. One of the best cafes I’ve ever been to. Even if you’re not vegan (which we aren’t) just go there."

I did not end up getting it because it contained honey, but that was the only animal secretion used at this cozy cafe and restaurant. Elela grows much of their own produce and seemed to be very mindful of the ecosystem around them and what impacts their practices make. They also had a full menu with so many delicious and unique dishes full of fresh plants and yummy nutrition.

One of the best meals we had in Valladolid was at the tiny but mighty Elela Organic Vegan Cafe and Restaurant. Even as non-vegans, we absolutely loved everything we tried here. The dishes burst with colorful vegetables, spices, and textures – like their famous Spanish omelet made with ibes and papa that comes with sautéed veggies.

This was actually this first café we ran into when looking for a place for lunch after our trip to Cenote Suytun. We found it by accident on Google Maps, but I’m glad that we tried it!. Everything this café serves is vegan, except for the use of honey as a sweetener in some dishes.
