Reviews Summary

Red Cabbage Cafe is lauded for its authentic Mexican comfort food and flavorful dishes like Mole Oaxaca and Peanut Soup. Diners appreciate the generous portions and reasonable prices, as well as the charming, art-filled atmosphere. However, some reviews mention inconsistent service quality and food temperature.

"This place is incredible. It’s on top of the hill in the romantic zone. We walked there and it was a nice and peaceful walk, but we took an Uber home which would be recommended if you aren’t up for a long long walk. The service was phenomenal! Our server was so kind and friendly and interested in who we were and where we came from. We chatted about our travels and our next stops. The food was incredible. We both got peanut soup and the poblano mole. They were both so rich and so flavorful. Our neighbor recommended we try this place and it did not disappoint. It was fantastic and we will definitely be back!! Make sure you bring your appetite. The desserts looked amazing but we could not fit anything else after dinner."

"I’ve been wanting to try The Red Cabbage for years and it did not disappoint. I went for the chiles en nogada and it was perfect. We really enjoyed the huitlacoche quesadilla too. The atmosphere was wonderful with all the art, and historical references to Frida Kahlo."

Kelly Salazar

"Quaint little place with fantastic food. I had the Black Bean Soup, Cochinita Pibil, and Flan. I also was able to try the mole sauce, peanut soup, and brownie. Everything was delicious. The entire group left full and enjoyed the food."

Puerto Vallarta Restaurants Gay Dining and Food Reviews Menus Cuisine

There are so many local fine dining venues, with more than four dozen in the South Side/Romantic Zone alone, that it's hard to find a bad meal in the whole town. Restaurant Row on Basilio Badillo street in the heart of Old Town has some twenty or more gay-friendly eateries in seven blocks, from Coco Tropical on Los Muertos beach to the La Fonda and beyond, including those that serve German (Hacienda Alemana), Mexican (Cafe de Olla, El Mole de Jovita, Fajita Republic, Mama Rosa, Margarita Grill and Paco's Tacos), Italian (Boccon di Vino), international cuisine (Di Vino Dante and La Fonda), American (The Pitt and Wing's Army), seafood fare (Joe Jack's, Mr. Pulpo), Mex-Tex (Nacho Daddy), and some of the best breakfasts in town (Fredy's Tucan, Johnny's Diner and Memo's Pancake House). Most of these have extensive menus with a wide and rich variety of delicious dishes to choose from.
