Our starting meeting point was a Joe Jacks Fish House, a classic and colorful institution in the area serving amazing fish tacos and other local specialties. We had a small gathering and went up directly to the top covered pavilion upstairs which was beautifully decorated and sat down into the reserved seating area and then promptly served their specialty fish tacos which I admit was perfect, lightly battered and crunchy with flavorful and most fish meat on the inside that was so delicious. This was paired with a perfect mezcalini cocktail that was refreshing and smooth – a really the best start of our tour.

My next favorite lunch spot is Joe Jacks Fish Shack, ironically I go for the Burgers, but the Fish tacos are great and the Nicoise Salad is amazing. Season Desserts are usually great and the 2 for one Mojitos have a very strong fan club check out the great online comments from Trip Advisor, Lonely Planet and more. My British husband says this is the single best Fish and Chips joint outside the UK. Check their website for promotions which often include an all-you-can-eat Friday night Fish and Chips special. Warning: Because of that special, they tend to be jammed on Friday nights, but the average person probably can’t finish an average order on an average night!

So far, Joe Jack’s Fish Shack is one of our favorite Puerto Vallarta restaurants in the Romantic Zone near the beach. It is much superior to its many competitors situated along the beach. Everything on the menu is fresh, delicious, and artfully prepared, so it never disappoints.

First of all, don’t be alarmed – this is not Joe’s Crab Shack. This is a PV original that’s been a staple in town for 15 years now, serving up some of the best seafood in Puerto Vallarta. Ceviche is their specialty here, and you can get a sampler plate to try all four varieties.

Jorge’s Hideaway Shrimp Shack: This charming little seafood eatery is found at the end of a dead-end street in lower Amapas, and the menu is mouthwateringly delicious. We recommend you make a reservation because this place fills up quick!

Joe Jack’s Fish Shack (Olas Altas 507, Amapas) sounds shit but I’ve seen it recommended everywhere. (UPDATE JULY 2017: Apparently Joe Jack’s is NOT on the beach, but it’s still got some great ginger mojitos that make it worth a visit.)
