There have been countless taco/Mexican restaurants open there but they all fail. They have not been able to start their own reputation all the while El Fogón is receiving all the customers while they sit semi empty.

For authentic Mexican food, you can visit El Fogón or try some of the best street food in town: the tacos al pastor from Tacos El Ñero, the carnitas tacos from Carnitas Teresita, the elotes on the corner of Calle 2 Nte and Avenida 15 and, for a sweet treat, the marquesita (on the corner of Calle 6 Norte & 10 Avenida Norte) with different fillings like cajeta, jam, chocolate or cheese.

While researching food recommendations in Playa, El Fogón seemed well-received. It’s further back behind the Wal-Mart and away from the touristy 5th Avenue, yet I wished I ate here more than once!. The food was reasonably priced (of course) and had cactus on the menu, which is something that’s outside my personal palette.
