Located only two blocks away from the Zócalo, the central gathering place of Oaxaca, Muss Café should not be missed by coffee lovers visiting Oaxaca City. Its organic beans are sourced from Finca Las Nieves: a farm brushed by the wind of the Pacific Coast that has been producing some of the state’s best coffee since the 19th century. The café itself is a chic and modern space that opens onto a calm-inducing colonial courtyard.

There’s Muss Cafe, the hotel’s first floor specialty coffee shop, and Amá, the third-story bar and cafe located on one of the city’s most stunning rooftops—not to mention the chic rooms and wonderful staff.

Located within the gorgeous Casa Antioneta (a gorgeous former colonial palace and now one of Oaxaca’s best boutique hotels), Muss Café is probably the most beautiful coffee shop in this list. It’s an ideal spot for a morning coffee, but it’s become a super popular cafe amongst digital nomads who come for the coffee, the food and the pretty co-working space in the inner courtyard. Those in the know will also find their way up to the plant-filled rooftop terrace for spectacular views over the city (although the wifi isn’t fantastic up here), enjoyed - naturally - with one of Muss’ excellent cocktails.

Muss Cafe was one of my favorite coffee spots in Oaxaca because of its dark and moody interior decor, delicious menu items, and refreshingly bold cold brew. After striking out with some iced coffees during our trip, we found a cold brew that finally wasn’t watered down and, of course, tried a latte. We ordered the BLTA and were surprised by all the fresh ingredients – crispy lettuce, sweet tomatoes, rich bacon slices, and nutty and ripe avocado sandwiched between thick and fluffy bread slices layered with garlic aioli and aged mustard.

Ahora que las cosas han vuelto a la normalidad, y con la adición de un nuevo bar en la terraza llamado Amá, el café ha ganado más popularidad, pero sigue siendo uno de los cafés más bonitos de Oaxaca, ¡o incluso el mejor!

Otra de las mejores cafeterías en Oaxaca centro es Muss Cafe, que también es un bar, restaurante y hotel, con sus ventajas y desventajas. Los contras son que hay muchas personas que pasan por aquí, está especialmente ocupada por las mañanas y no hay mucho ambiente—aunque ponen música muy buena. Los pro son que tienen un food menu muy bueno con comida Mexicana (por si estás cansada de solo comer croissants y bagels en las cafeterías) y con el bar puedes tomar un chupito de mezcal para acabar tu día de trabajo.

Muss Cafe came highly recommended in the Expats Oaxaca Facebook group I belong to. After having spent an afternoon sipping one of their artfully prepared lattes and savoring every last bight of their chocolate chip banana bread, I couldn’t not add this coffee shop to the list. It’s situated inside of the beautiful Casa Antonieta in Centro, meaning you can enjoy your coffee inside the cafe or at a seat in the hotel’s inviting courtyard.

At Muss Café, located within the elegant Casa Antonieta – one of the best hotels in Oaxaca-, modern design meets Oaxacan charm in an unexpectedly fresh way. The café exudes a calm, contemporary vibe, where sleek marble countertops and warm wooden accents create a space that’s both stylish and welcoming. Set just off the city’s main tourist routes, Muss feels like a hidden urban retreat—sophisticated without being over the top.

Earthy meets classy at Muss Cafe, a gorgeous cafe in the heart of Oaxaca (Calle Hidalgo), and an extension of the Casa Antonieta—often named one of the top design and boutique hotels in Oaxaca. By far, Muss Cafe is one of Oaxaca City’s best cafes for coffee lovers, digital nomads, and travelers. The only downside is that it’s not a reliable place to grab wifi and work.

You’d miss it if you didn’t know about the beautiful terraced rooftop here!. Muss Cafe serves excellent coffee and offers a range of International breakfast dishes to enjoy in the leafy rooftop gardens. From fruit and smoothie bowls, veggie omelettes, French Toast, Chia Puddings and more, it’s the perfect place to bring a good book whilst soaking up the relaxed vibes.

Found within Casa Antonieta, an exquisite boutique hotel in Oaxaca, is Muss Café. The cafe is nestled in one of the oldest buildings in Oaxaca and opened its doors in 2018. Here you can can sit in the intimate cafe, surrounded by smooth wood and an extensive brew bar, or you can head upstairs to the rooftop courtyard to enjoy your coffee and breakfast at Amá Terraza.

But here’s the trick; there’s a tiny coffee shop off the street, but you have to go past that, through the courtyard, and up three flights of stairs to the real magic. That’s where you’ll find the rooftop terrace at Muss Cafe, completely enveloped in floor to ceiling plants. One of the best coffee shops in Oaxaca I found for just sitting and writing and reflecting.

Muss Café’s coffee and its sleek interior made a lasting impression on me. All the coffee served at Muss comes from Finca Las Nieves’ “magic cloud forest.” I cannot stress how good the chia pudding bowl was, and Luke raved about the spicy shakshuka her ordered. Apart from the food and exceptional coffee, Muss’ aesthetic interiors cemented it in my brain.

Located on the lower level of a gorgeous renovated building turned hotel, Muss Café is one of the most popular coffee shops in Oaxaca. The main cafe is tiny but it expands to a beautiful courtyard with arched columns, a large table, and comfy seating areas. Or you can choose to go upstairs to the rooftop bar and restaurant known as Amá Terraza.

Also, take a wander over to Muss Cafe for great espresso (next to the Textile Museum). My coffee-obsessed friends recommend Morito y Moglie, Cafébre, Kiyo, and Café SL28 as good spots to sample. In terms of bringing coffee beans home, El Volador is a good option, as are Morito y Moglie and Cafébre.

Muss Cafe/Ama Terraza is attached to the beautiful Casa Antoinetta Hotel. Muss Cafe is located on the ground level, but if you head upstairs to the rooftop, you’ll find a gorgeous cafe with panoramic city views and beautiful greenery. The upstairs also serves cocktails.

Muss Cafe is a gorgeous indoor/outdoor cafe on the eastern side of Centro. I found coffee/tea prices a bit high and my matcha was (unsurprisingly) not that good, but it is really worth it for the ambiance. Muss Cafe is laptop friendly and a great place to get work.

This cafe is tiny- four tables and four bar stools, so get there early. We arrived just after 9 am and quickly watched the last croissant disappear from the half-empty pastry shelf. After 10 am they open the door to the inner courtyard which has a few more tables.

One of my favorite coffee shops in Oaxaca is Muss Café which is in the heart of the city known as Centro or the historic district. It happens to be part of Casa Antonieta so you are in luck if you are staying here. And if you aren’t, make sure to visit this café.

Forgive me for including so many coffee shops on this walking tour, but Oaxaca is a great city for them!. I ordered a delicious latte at Muss Café and asked if I could enjoy it in their courtyard. The super friendly staff was a little hesitant, but said yes.

This contemporary cafe attached to the Casa Antonieta Hotel in downtown Oaxaca is stylish but without compromising on coffee. Delicious coffee, pastries, and light meals are beautifully presented on local pottery in a sleek modern cafe space.

It was fun to try a local Mexican coffee – we were really impressed by the quality of the beans. Muss Café is attached to the gorgeous Casa Antonieta, so you can relax in the hotel’s beautiful atrium while sipping your drink.

Whenever I’ve visited Muss Café, it’s been full of people on laptops. It combines excellent espresso with a co-working space vibe. The café itself is a first floor shop in a large colonial building steps from the Zocalo.

COVID-19 Policy & InfoHand sanitizer at the door, staff wear masks. Tables are closer together than some places so if it is busy, you will be closer to people sitting and not wearing masks at their table.

Muss Cafe is another good laptop-friendly cafe option in Oaxaca. They have a large space with plenty of room. Be sure to enjoy items from their diverse menu.

It´s hard getting a decent seat here, but you will thoroughly enjoy the coffee, lunch, and a couple of hours of ´laptoptime´.
