I love Páramo's vast selection of gourmet tacos, but I return time and time again for their Jamaicón taco, made with jamaica, or hibiscus flowers, fresh cheese, avocado, and onion. Another quirk of this restaurant is that the tacos are available in different sizes — taquito, taco, and cazuela, which means saucepan in English and is the largest size. I recommend starting by ordering three varieties of the smallest tacos and then more of your favorite to round off the meal.

Supposing that you’re eating vegan in Mexico City but hanging out with non-vegans, Páramo is a great spot to bring the whole group. Their vegan options are clearly marked on the menu, but there are lots of other, more omnivorous options. Páramo is the sort of late-night restaurant where dinner can roll into drinks, which can roll into meeting new friends in the open ceilinged, verdant central courtyard.

When pop star Dua Lipa shared a list of her favorite restaurants in Mexico City, it had the usual suspects — Pujol, Contramar — but a lot of chilangos were surprised by a hidden gem called Páramo. It offers a wide range of tacos, craft beers and mezcals, along with a great selection of dance music. Located in the Condesa neighborhood, it is upstairs from El Parnita, a beloved seafood taco restaurant.

Roma Norte’s night-time cantina Páramo – located above snack stop El Parnita – generously pours the agave spirit (and just about everything else) once its downstairs operations close for the night. This semi-hidden place, which opened last year, is one of my favorites spots in Mexico City. When you arrive you need to go through a shady door, which happens to be just next to another of my favorite restaurants, Parnita (partially owned by the same people). Her favorite spots include Cicatriz, a funky cafe run by fellow former New Yorkers Jake & Scarlett Lindeman (try the roasted carrots) steps from the city’s Centro and the laidback late-night spot Paramo in the artsy Roma Norte neighborhood. While you are there stop by Hugo El Winebar, a newer spot, specializing in natural wines.

Paramo — Super stylish spot with great tacos, yummy cocktails, a huge mezcal list, and the most delicious tuna/avocado/mango ceviche I’ve ever had. It’s split into separate rooms each with its own unique décor, so even though it’ll be busy it will still feel intimate. This was a repeater for me — don’t miss it!

Modern Mexican restaurant Paramo in Roma is apparently the band Interpol's favourite place to eat in Mexico City… And I can see why. It took a while to get a reservation and even then we had to wait for a table, as it's popular with locals as well as tourists. But the food here was well worth the queue.

Páramo has the strongest taco offering in Mexico City with a solid Mezcal selection and great cocktails. These tacos are what we would call Gourmet Tacos as they don’t resemble the traditional tacos to be found in Mexico. Burritos are awesome and you only need one to get fully satisfied.

This spot is favoured by young locals and boasts an impressive menu. However, I felt the decor was one of the best parts of the whole place. Go if you want to feel like you’re dining in a barn that also happens to be a speakeasy and oh also your bohemian best friends apartment.

Páramo, located above another hotly in-demand lunch spot, El Parnita, is always packed but never pretentious. The scene is chill and the plates are to die for (go for the shrimp tacos and ceviche). It’s also home to what may be the tastiest mezcal drinks in Mexico City.

Paramo in Roma is for the semi-night owl, where you can hang in the late-night scene until 2 am. With a cool interior featuring brick walls, hanging lights and plants, what’s not to love about having a beer here?. To order: pork tacos, ceviche, more tacos.

Take a late-night eatery in any major city in the world, subtract the loud music, cramped space, poor lighting and dull food and you’ve got Paramo. Complete with a killer mezcal selection, delicious variety of tacos and a diverse crowd.

You’ll also find popular restaurants such as the classic MOG, Belmondo, the delicious tacos at Taquería Orinoco and the drinks of Páramo and El Parnita. If you are a vinyl lover, Revancha and La Roma Records are nearby.

Perched upstairs above Parnita is this casual night time eatery. Must try dishes on the menu include Chamorrocasserole, La Muñeca (Chamorro Taco), Emalaura (Shrimp Taco), ceviche Chachalaca and pellizcadas Petatlán.

Some of the good new wave taquerías are just getting going around this time: Visit Tizne in Del Valle, where the charred eggplant taco is king, or Páramo in Roma, which slings a meatball taco to rule them all.
