Reviews Summary

Loup Bar is highly praised for its extensive and unique natural wine selection, delicious food that complements the drinks, and a cozy, vibey atmosphere that makes it a great spot for dates or casual outings. Reviewers often highlight friendly and knowledgeable staff, though some mention that service can be slower during busy periods. The food receives consistent praise, with many dishes recommended, though one review noted limited vegetarian options.

"We spent two evenings at Loup and we loved them both - really friendly staff, such a great selection of natural wine but great cocktails and beers too. Food was delicious - not tons of larger options for vegetarians, but it was enough for us. We walked in both times, but it might be useful to reserve a table."

Ella Woods

"We really enjoyed our meal here. We sat outside on the terrace and our server was amazing — super helpful with recommendations and very friendly. The food was good but the relaxing atmosphere and good wine is what made it worth it. The fried Brussels sprouts were very good. Great date spot & would definitely go back!"

Lexi Advaney

"Recommended to us by our server at Rubi’s Wine Bar. Beautiful bar with a great little patio area to sit out on a nice day. The staff was excellent and they were kind to our dog. The ambiance inside is very vibey and chic, but still has an inviting neighborhood nature. My carajillo was delicious, and you need to order the sourdough. It was perfectly toasted, but soft, and served with great olive oil. Will definitely be back."

The 20 Best Bars In Mexico City - Mexico City

Loup was one of the first natural wine bars to open in Mexico City, and it’s still one of the best for unexpected, funky wines—their list is well-curated, with small-batch bottles from all over Europe. The food menu is small, but you can definitely have a full meal here: the juicy wagyu flank steak with perfectly creamy mashed potatoes is the standout entree. If you’re only sort of in a wine mood, ask for a vermouth spritz with a splash of pet nat.

20 Best Bars in Mexico City

From Gaetan Rousset and Joaquín Cardoso, Loup Bar is part of a new wave of wine-focused spots that puts just as much emphasis on the food. Rousset is a wine importer who focuses on young and rustic wines (mostly natural or biodynamic) from France and Spain, while Cardoso is a young talent whose time spent working in starred European restaurants is evident in his rich food, like lamb with polenta.

How Mexico City Is Becoming the World’s New Cocktail Capital

With world class cocktail bars sprouting up all over Mexico City, doors also open for more niche imbibing concepts—adding more nuanced color to an already vibrant scene. Natural wine bars, for instance, are all the rage in Mexico City right now. Loup Bar (below Maison Artemisia), Hugo, NIV, and PLONK are just a few of the hottest natty pours in the city for happy hour or date night, while the later night crowds are flocking to listening bars—or "music rooms"—which have gained popularity in CDMX over the past decade.

This popular Mexico City natural wine bar has become a mecca for visitors and locals alike. On Loup Bar’s extensive wine list you’ll spot all the usual suspects (Gut Oggau, Strohmeier, Bichi) and, if you’re lucky, you might even find some crazy good deals – on our visit we snagged a shockingly affordable magnum of Lammidia Bianchetto. Sit outside at tables on the street (Paris-style) or inside, and enjoy the good vibes and friendly staff.

A Guide to Mexico City’s Natural Wine Scene

He first began importing natural wine into Mexico in 2016 with his brand Loofok, and later went on to open Loup Bar in Colonia Roma in 2017. “When I moved here, almost all wine sold in Mexico City was conventional, but now that’s not the case,” says Rousset. “Our scene has evolved immensely in the last six years and will continue to do so given most new restaurants are focused on product quality, for which natural wine is an obvious fit.

Moving beyond beer and tequila, Mexico City embraces the wine bar

Enormously popular since it opened in 2017, Loup has a list of natural wines that feels immensely overwhelming to the wine neophyte, not to mention the natural wine neophyte. “Nobody’s going to take the time to look at a list this long,” says Serratos, “not when you’re sitting and chatting.”. But our congenial waiter offers to let us taste as many of the by-the-glass options as we like — the list changes daily.

My Favourite Places to Drink Wine in CDMX – Call Me a Food Lover…

Loup Bar was the first natural wine bar in CDMX that I discovered, and still one of my favourites. I love pulling up a seat on the sidewalk in the afternoon for a glass of wine and a nibble from their solid food menu. I always feel fortunate to imbibing in such a lovely space, where I feel like I’ve transported to a European city, but at the same time I’m deeply aware that I’m in Roma Norte.

I wasn’t able to make room for more food here, but I did enjoy a few glasses of natural orange wine.
