In the patio of a beautiful, open-air mansion, Galanga Thai House, the defining Thai restaurant in the city, is steered by powerhouse chef Somsri Raksamran and her Mexican husband, Eleazar. The menu is ample and the dishes elegant, with thoughtful touches throughout: banana leaves folded just so; fans of cucumber; the tod moon gung speared with ginger. The flavor of gaeng kiew wan, a green curry with beef and baby eggplant, extends into tomorrow with herbs and chiles.

More restaurants in Mexico City have become increasingly international over the past decade, and this Thai spot is another example of that. You’ll see familiar noodle dishes on the menu, but the standouts here are the “platos fuertes,” or entrees, like the khao soi and the khai paloh with egg and pork belly. Add on a plate of gai tod golae, which will be some of the best fried chicken wings you'll ever try, and wash it all down with one of their mezcal cocktails.

An incredible recent addition to Asian food restaurants in Roma, Galanga is run by a Thai- Mexican husband and wife team and serves authentic and delicious Thai food to rave reviews. Galanga is a root much like ginger but with a stronger flavor and is the base of their curries and soups. The pad thai is, of course, the standout but the Pad Pak and the green, red, yellow and massaman curries also make our favorites list.

While the Thai diaspora in Mexico City is tiny, the menu at Galanga Thai House is a broad reflection of the country’s cuisine that varies well past noodles and curries. Chef "Ana" Somsri Raksamran, from Phuket, first came to Mexico as a masseuse at a resort on the Pacific. Her well-worn family recipes – and later marriage to a Mexico City restaurateur – led to her first restaurant, Galanga, in 2015.

With only 3 years in business, this Thai restaurant has become a staple of La Roma neighborhood. Somsri left Phuket and met her now husband Eleazar here in Mexico, and after not finding the right flavors that did justice to her country, they decided to open Galanga. Eleazar says that although she’s not a chef, Somsri has an amazing food memory with which she perfects the recipes until they taste authentic.

Finding Southeast Asian cuisine in Mexico City is not as common as in large American cities, in my experience. Galanga Thai House was a standout in my eyes when it first opened in 2015, and soon the restaurant became so successful it expanded to a much larger location. Saying that it has the best pad thai in the city is an understatement — it's one of the few I've tried in CDMX that I've really loved.

Galanga's cuisine is traditional Thai food, from street food to the most exotic dishes with flavors that are hard to forget. The atmosphere is warm and fun. It has different areas where you can receive your guests, the main dining room is in the middle of a scene of beautiful plants, and the other rooms have the perfect design to create a unique environment for this special night.

If you’re craving Thai food, Galanga Thai House is one of the coolest restaurants in Mexico City!. This restaurant is set in a stunning colonial house decorated with plants that will whisk you away right into the heart of Bangkok. It stands out as one of the finest Thai restaurants in the city (the best, in my opinion).

Now I eat Thai food quite often, but Galanga Thai is quite possibly the best and most extravagant that I’ve had to date. The evening I went to the restaurant was a bit chilly, so I was seated inside Galanga’s beautifully renovated Roma Nte. mansion instead of outside in their garden courtyard.

Galanga is an upscale Thai restaurant whose elegant interior is as much of a draw as its food. It’s not a place to go for a casual quick lunch. You’ll want to get a little dressed up and be prepared to spend more than you would at your average restaurant, drinking, eating, and chatting.

Galanga in Mexico city is famous for Thai food (I mean of course lol, it’s a Thai restaurant). My friend wanted to go to Galanga so bad, cause one of his friend highly recommended. I was so hungover, so I was eating and throwing up, but the next day I devoured the left over lol.
